JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Prevention Coordinator, I/II/III 

Department: Child and Family Services

Reports To: Program Manager

Supervises: None 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Pay Grade: N3 (I), N4 (II), N5 (III) 

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

AKBCU: Yes ICPA: Yes 

General Functions

The Prevention Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the successful coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of required prevention-related activities under the direction of the Program Manager. This position will link youth and adults in Anchorage and Mat-Su to needed services and is responsible for training staff, peers, and community members in the principles, effective practices, techniques, and latest findings in various prevention activities. 

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to: 

Prevention Coordinator, I

  • Plan and provide life skills development, cultural, and wellness groups for participants-serving organizations throughout the community.
  • Work with community outreach groups to build relations and connectedness with homeless.
  • Provide education, awareness, and warning signs of suicide to youth located in community gathering areas.
  • Provide prevention education and training on tobacco, alcohol, and substance use.
  • Attend events for community outreach. (e.g., health fairs, street fairs, volunteer fairs, etc.)
  • Submit and maintain required reports and documentation in compliance with all required aspects of the grants and organizational goals.
  • Engage in continuous professional development related to the implementation and support of the program.
  • Attend appropriate staff, advisory committee, council, and Board meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with CITC staff and personnel and collaborations with program partners, community coalitions, stakeholders, and other grantees. 
  • Travel to villages to provide Prevention programs.
  • Travel for training as needed.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Prevention Coordinator, II

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Prevention Coordinator I position with a higher level of proficiency.
  • Support Prevention Coordinator I staff by answering questions, providing guidance, and making recommendations related to the Prevention Coordinator I’s duties and responsibilities.

Prevention Coordinator, III

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Prevention Coordinator I and II positions with an advanced proficiency level.
  • Support Prevention Coordinator I and II staff by answering questions, providing guidance, making recommendations, and conduct case management training related to Prevention Coordinator I and II’s duties and responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities Related to Participant Privacy

  • Employees are expected to actively participate in CITC privacy training and to protect the privacy of participant information in accordance with CITC's privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law. Failure to comply with CITC's policies and procedures on participant privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Employees may access protected health information and other participant information only to the extent necessary to complete job duties. Employees may only share such information on a need-to-know basis with others who have job responsibilities related to treatment, payment, or other CITC operations.
  • Employees are encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding CITC's policies and procedures on participant privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to the designated Privacy Officer.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities.
  • Technical expertise in public health program design and evaluation.
  • Adept at managing relationships and projects in a community setting. 
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native and/or community resources with demonstrated experience working with Alaska Native people, and an understanding of their values and belief systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Prevention Coordinator, I

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a related health services, social work, psychology, public health, sociology, education, or other health related field.

Prevention Coordinator, II

  • Associate degree in health services, social work, psychology, public health, sociology, education, or other health related field. Relevant experience may qualify for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a related social services field, as stated in the general functions.

Prevention Coordinator, III

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, social work, psychology, sociology, or behavioral health services required. Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a related social services field and delivering, designing, and implementing strategies for prevention programs or community organizing.

Minimum Qualifications for All Levels:

  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.
  • Experience working with Alaska Native families, knowledge of their values and belief systems, and working knowledge of historical and contemporary social, economic, and cultural problems, issues, or challenges. 
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check, approved National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI) status, and state approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP).
  • Current access to all Department of Correction (DOC) facilities and continue to remain in compliance or the ability to obtain access within one year from hire.

Additional Information:

  • CITC provides CPR and First-Aid certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily works in an office setting, with extended periods of time at a desk and on a computer.
