What You'll Do

  • An Assurance Engineer is required to evaluate, document, and address Nuclear Enterprise Assurance (NEA) related risks that may impact the Pantex mission. These risks include:
    • Adversarial supply chain risks
    • Capability related risks that may impact the ability to design, produce or test nuclear weapons (NW’s)
    • Digital system risks associated with operational technology (OT).
  • The intent is to provide assurance against adversarial attacks and prevent subversion and/or compromise of NW systems, capabilities and crosscutting functions and programs across the full weapon lifecycle. The objective is to protect our nation’s NW stockpile. The NEA program is Federally mandated and is applicable to the entire Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) The Assurance Engineer’s role is to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) that provides support to site organizations in the identification, analysis, and resolution of NEA related risks and issues. Frequent travel is required to support external meetings, working groups, trainings and conferences. This position requires knowledge and skills of a technical nature to support daily activities including completing complex tasks/activities, leading and facilitating groups and cross-functional teaming and directly interfacing with the customer.
  • Exhibit initiative and be able to work both independently and with highly performing teams under limited supervision to complete major tasks and milestones.
  • This position requires the individual to work closely with diverse teams in support of NEA related risk discovery, identification, analysis and management. Evaluate and support development NEA related risk mitigations, procedures and metrics.
  • Collaborates with the intelligence community on activities associated with identification of threats and vulnerabilities associated with the Site mission.
  • Interacts with the Labs, Plants, and Sites (LPS), External Agencies, and Site NEA Points of Contact (POC) to execute, maintain and improve the NEA program.
  • Provides SME advisement and consultation to various technical and administrative personnel who interface with NEA and are pivotal to the program's success and longevity.
  • Champions initiatives to resolve NEA related issues and anomalies.
  • Supports in the development, submission and monitoring of budget and schedules for assigned tasks/projects and deliverables.
  • Completes required training associated with NEA Representative position and works with NEA management to ensure the development of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to support the NEA program and assigned roles and responsibilities.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.
  • OR Master’s degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.
  • OR 10 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
  • Receive and maintain DOE Q security clearance

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical and/or business-related discipline, combined with at least 5 years of experience in a technical position.
  • Ability to understand technically complex systems, technologies, and applications within the manufacturing and production environments.
  • General knowledge of basic quality principles such as NQA1
  • Be able to plan, review and communicate technical processes; analyze operational data for the purpose of generating written reports or process improvements; analyze problems and make recommendations associated with special tooling and fixtures used in processes; and clearly and effectively communicate through oral and written word.
  • Experience directly associated with NW weapon components and processes is desired.
  • Experience with leading and/or participating in subversion centered vulnerability and/or security-related risk assessments.
  • Application of tools used in discovering, identifying or evaluating risk [e.g., failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threates (SWOT), Risk Register, and/or risk informed decsion making (RIDM)], .
  • Knowledge associated with information gathering, analysis and evaluation focused on an adversarial mindset.
  • Strong communication skills that support the ability to coordinate, interact, network, and mediate with local and NSE-level NEA subject matter experts and site managers, as well as technical weapons personnel, project managers, and cross-cutting function personnel.
  • Experience with improvement-based tools and processes, for example; six sigma, kaizen, and process mapping.
