Job Description

The Accounting & Finance Department at Comoto consists of highly motivated people who are encouraged to bring their skills and initiatives to the table. They drive efficiency and change to improve internal systems and processes through skills, development, and collaboration. We operate in a fast-paced, changing environment.

This role will be part of the Accounting leadership team and will report directly to the Vice President, Controller. The Director, Accounting is responsible for leading a team of 10 and owning the monthly close process. Our next Director, Accounting will have a proactive orientation and ability to manage and motivate the team through an evolving environment. Clear communication skills, documentation skills, accuracy, and attention to detail are key requirements.

The Director, Accounting Will: 

  • Oversee the daily, monthly, quarterly, and financial closing process for all channels (Retail, eCommerce, and Shared service.) 
  • Develop, mentor, and lead a team of accountants
  • Meet and uphold financial statement and reporting deadlines, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Partner with the FP&A team to align internal management reporting packages
  • Perform financial statement risk assessment to identify the risk profile of each account for the effective establishment of internal controls and focused reviews
  • Work with key members of the business units to understand significant fluctuations in trends and key drives of business results
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of team members, both internally and externally
  • Oversee and support various aspects of our annual audit including but not limited to interim testing, year-end testing, managing audit requests, coordination of and adherence to the external audit timeline, and resolution of critical audit issues. 
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP by maintaining continuing professional education requirements to stay apprised of new technical developments.
  • Perform independent research and prepare analyses of the impact of accounting and regulatory pronouncements on the company’s financial statements and disclosures. 
  • Translate and communicate complex accounting information to various audiences to drive informed business and financial decision-making 
  • Design new processes and enhance existing ones, implement scalable processes to support the company's growth, and drive continuous improvement. 
  • Identify and assist in implementing process and technological improvement opportunities

Qualifications

The Director, Accounting Has: 

  • An Active CPA License. This is a MUST HAVE
  • Strong retail/eCommerce industry experience 
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and In-depth knowledge of US GAAP
  • Extensive leadership experience with the ability to lead, manage, and grow a high-performing team
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to build strong working relationships to effectively navigate across the organization
  • Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a focus on Accounting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred: 

  •  Experience with JD Edwards and RetailPro is not required, but a strong advantage
