Community Lunch on Capitol Hill is a small but growing organization providing lunch 5 days a week to anyone who needs it. We also provide survival gear, clothing, and toiletries, and access to additional support and services through collaborations with other social service agencies. We are looking for an empathetic, communicative, and dependable person to join our team as Head Chef and Operations Manager, responsible for ensuring the daily delivery of our meal program.

Summary:

Community Lunch provides around 300 meals per day to anyone who comes through our doors. This is a collaborative effort between volunteers, staff, donors, food rescue organizations, and our guests who come to us from across Seattle. Over 90% of our ingredients are gathered through “food rescue” programs which divert food waste from large supermarket chains. The Head Chef and Operations Manager is an essential member of the team, responsible for ordering, day-to-day staff management, on-site volunteer engagement, and preparing and cooking the daily meal.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, prep and cook 5 lunches (about 1500 total meals) per week, with volunteer support.
• Submit weekly food and paper goods orders.
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards.
• Daily management of a small programs team.
• Coordination of donations pickups, filling in to help with pickups as needed.
• Represent Community Lunch positively with our volunteers, guests, and occasionally at public-facing events.
• Work with Executive Director to oversee training and onboarding of new staff and volunteers
• Work with Executive Director to continually develop and improve our programs so that we may better support our community's needs.
• Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss issues and generate ideas
• Other duties and responsibilities as they arise

Candidate profile:

• Experience in restaurants and/or catering; confident preparing hundreds of meals every day with limited resources, in a dynamic environment.
• Able to manage all aspects of running a kitchen.
• Open-minded, flexible, and passionate about addressing food insecurity and building a more equitable society.
• Must be comfortable working and engaging daily with our guests in a respectful and trauma-informed manner.
• Must be able to communicate needs and challenges clearly and proactively.
• Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 50 lbs.
• Proven ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Must agree to a comprehensive background check

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $67,800.00 - $68,000.00 per year
