TITLE: Accounting Specialist (Accounts Payable)

Target Salary Range: $19.28 - $22.17/ Per Hour

Position Summary:

Under close supervision, the Accounting Specialist – Accounts Payable performs various accounting and clerical tasks to support all aspects of the full accounts payable cycle as well as certain other payment processing activities associated with the medical claims payment cycle.

Compliance with Regulations:

Works closely with all departments necessary to ensure that the processes, programs and services are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with CHG policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery of exceptional vendor and employee experiences as it relates to all facets of accounts payable processing.

  • Review for proper coding of invoices in accordance with the chart of accounts, verify appropriate departmental approvals, match purchase orders, and enter invoices accurately into accounting system for payment.

  • Assist with management and monitoring of the accounts payable aging.

  • Process invoices to be paid and request additional supporting documentation from internal/external contacts, as necessary.

  • Print checks and obtain appropriate signatures prior to disbursement.

  • Process vendor credit memos as necessary.

  • Assist with weekly medical claims payment processing and disbursement activities.

  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and respond to other internal and external inquiries.

  • Assist with accounting month-end close process, including maintaining analyses to identify items requiring accrual at month end.

  • Process employee expense reports and distribute expenses to appropriate general accounts.

  • Assist with the process improvement efforts of various accounts payable functions including efforts to improve efficiencies in payment processing.

  • Assist with the documentation of significant accounts payable processes and related internal controls in support of development of revised accounting manual.

  • Assist with new vendor onboarding and setup process as it relates to accounts payable, including W-9 and other requests.

  • Assist with annual 1099 filing process.

  • Establish strong working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Perform other related accounting, clerical, and administrative tasks as required or assigned.

  • Actively cross train with other accounting staff and serve as backup for such duties.

Perform other special projects, ad-hoc reporting, and analysis as assigned.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Associates degree in accounting, business administration or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred .

Experience/Skills:

  • Three to five years of high volume accounts payable experience in a multi-entity corporate environment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, specifically as it applies to capital expenditures, prepaid accounting, and accrual accounting.

  • Personal commitment to excellence, integrity, and honesty in all dealings.

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to build relationships with other team members both within and outside of the Accounting/Finance departments.

  • Highly analytical thinker with ability to assess problems and proactively seek solutions.

  • Self-motivated, with a strong desire for continuous learning and ability to drive process improvement.

  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to frequent changes in workload, and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.

  • Relentless attention to detail.

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel.

  • Experience with mid-tier accounting and financial reporting software required; Sage 300 a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting

  • Some lifting may be required

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends, as necessary
