Columbia Gorge Community College is Hiring an Accounting Specialist- Accounts Recievable Near The Dalles, OR

Description

The Accounting Specialist III is responsible for accounts receivable, cashiering and A/R training/support to all CGCC cashiers, and Bookstore staff and accounting support activities. Cross training will take place to assist with other business operations. This position responds to student and other customer service inquiries. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Accounts Receivable

  1. Performs cashiering for student, third-party agencies and entities, contract and grant receivables.
  2. Responsible for safekeeping of cash till, performing daily cash reconciliation and preparing a daily bank deposit.
  3. Works closely with Registrar and Instructional Services to help maintain accurate student charges and fees for various student categories.
  4. Promptly advises Registrar of any student issues that need immediate attention.
  5. Administer and create reporting from account payment gateway (Transact Campus).
  6. Posts manual charges to accounts receivable.
  7. Assists with financial management activities of federal and state student financial aid by preparing records of posted awards, preparing payment requests and invoicing.
  8. Prepares refunds of credit balances.
  9. Monitor and processes installment payment plans for students.
  10. Administers student accounts in coordination with Student Services including, but not limited to, financial holds, late fees, cash applications, refunds, and reconciliations for related transactions.
  11. Prepares and distributes student account statements.
  12. Administers past due accounts and collections.
  13. Prepares research and analysis as directed.
  14. Prepares accounts receivable reconciliations.
  15. Assists in the annual financial audit as needed.
  16. Assists with unclaimed property reporting.

General Business Office Functions

  1. Uses College-designated computer software programs to perform tasks.
  2. Follows Business Office and College policies and procedures.
  3. Provides back-up for other functions of the Business Office
  4. Responsible for purchasing office supplies and coordinating service calls for office equipment as needed.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of data.
  6. Serves on various committees as assigned.
  7. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

Experience working with computerized accounting systems required (minimum of three years). 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  • Associate Degree in relevant field with significant accounting course work required and/or equivalent relevant work experience. 
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of computerized accounting and point-of-sale systems
  • Able to perform and prioritize tasks with limited supervision
  • Able to perform work as a team member
  • Able to work with the public
  • Proficient in computerized spreadsheets, relational databases, and word processing
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, and able to meet multiple deadlines.

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hand to finger, feel or operate computers, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, crawl, climb, kneel, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Vision ability is required by this job.
