Columbia Gorge Community College is Hiring an Adjunct Instructor Pool Near The Dalles, OR

Description

This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings that may arise throughout the academic year. As applications are submitted, they will be reviewed for appropriate related courses. When a position is available, the dean (or designee) will review qualified applicants from this pool. Should review of your qualifications result in a decision to interview, you will be contacted. As an adjunct instructor you will perform all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the CGCC Mission and Core Values. Conforms to the college's guiding principles and follows the terms and responsibilities laid out in the collective bargaining agreement. It is the goal of CGCC to offer excellent academic content across a variety of fields. This pool will serve to provide pre-approved faculty for new courses and sections as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Teaches assigned courses and develop curriculum in accordance with course descriptions as outlined in a course syllabus and schedule requirements.
  • Hold office hours in relation to credit load (may be conducted remotely)
  • Be responsive and engaged with students outside the classroom as needed
  • Assess student assignments and submit grades in accordance with CGCC procedures 
  • Orients students by distribution of course syllabi early in the quarter as to the objectives, measurable outcomes, purposes of the course, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements and required texts. 
  • Prepares and presents records and reports necessary for proper institutional management. 
  • Follows the highest ethical standards of the teaching profession and promotes the best interests of the College.
  • Adhere to CGCC policies and procedures around classroom management, course conduct, assessment and accommodations 

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Pool faculty members may teach across multiple disciplines, as their qualifications and experiences allow. Below are the course content areas and the required qualifications for each are:

Requirements to teach Transferable/General Education classes:

  •  Master’s degree in the subject area; or 
  •  Master's degree in a related area plus 24 graduate hours of credit in the subject area; or 
  •  Demonstrated competency in the field.

Courses within this area:

  • Anthropology, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Chinese, Communication, Consumer and Family Studies, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, Food and Nutrition, French, Geology, German, History, Japanese, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Reading, Russian, Sociology, Spanish, Theater Arts, Women and Gender Studies

The minimum requirements for approval to teach a Developmental Education course are

the following:

  •  Master’s degree in an appropriate educational field (e.g. special/developmental/adult education, reading, math, English) and 
  •  Recent experience working with disadvantaged students; 
  •  ESOL also requires TESOL certification, or demonstrated competency in the field.

Courses within this area:

  • Math 65. 95, 98, Writing 115

The minimum requirements for approval to teach a Career/Technical Education course are

the following:

  • Master’s degree in the subject area and three (3) years recent, full-time, nonteaching experience in the field; or
  • Master’s degree in a related area plus 24 graduate hours of credit in upper division coursework in the subject area, and three (3) years recent, full-time, non-teaching work experience in the field; or 
  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject area and four (4) years recent, full-time, nonteaching work experience in the field; or 
  •  Bachelor’s degree in a related area, plus 24 hours upper division coursework in the subject area, plus four (4) years recent, full-time, non-teaching work experience in the field; or 
  •  Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in subject area or professional education plus five (5) years recent, full-time, non-teaching work experience in the field, or demonstrated competency and/or qualifications set by licensing organizations in the field.
  • This seeking to instruct in Nursing, Nursing Assisting, Medical Assisting, EMS/Paramedicine will be required to demonstrate licensures, certification, and education beyond the scope of this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Working knowledge of computers, with skills in MS Word and Excel
