Colorado Mesa University is Hiring an Assistant director safety Near Grand Junction, CO

The Assistant Public Safety Department Director is a full-time administrative position with teaching responsibilities. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the overall organization and operation of the Western Colorado Peace Officer’s Academy (WCPOA) and assisting with oversight of EMT and Fire programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Recruit, select, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Public Safety Department instructors, to include full time, part-time adjunct, and volunteer faculty positions.

Represent CMU Tech as an administrative liaison for the Public Safety Department advisory boards, to include coordination of semi-annual meetings.

Represent CMU Tech in a strong partnership between all agency partners including but not limited to Grand Junction PD, Mesa County SO, District Attorney’s Office, Fruita PD, and Palisade PD.

Foster strong communication and facilitate collaboration between all in the recruitment and selection of academy students.

Teaching responsibilities include teaching within your area of expertise as needed each spring and fall for CMU Tech with advising compliance with all Colorado POST Board requirements.

Represent CMU Tech on the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center technical committee, responsible for the administration, development and oversight of the CLETC with administrative oversight of financial operations for the Public Safety Department, to include preparation and submission of all program budgets, purchase requests, and assignment preps for part-time in implementing and maintaining a records management system to achieve department goals.

Represent CMU Tech and the Public Safety Department with appropriate local, regional, and state-level in preparing annual reports on program enrollment, cost of operation, and further action cooperation with the Public Safety Department Director, will be prepared to field and resolve complaints and problems originating from POST Academy students and instructors.

Minimum Qualifications Required :

  • Baccalaureate degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field from an accredited institution or an associate degree with applicable supervisory and / or leadership experience.
  • Five years practical experience within the past fifteen years in law enforcement.
  • Must be able to work with a team, possess sound computer and strong communication skills.
  • Must have strong interest and expertise in scenario-based teaching, be committed to quality teaching, responsive to changes in policing profession, and be supportive of strong community relations.

Previous teaching experience helpful. Preferred Qualifications :

  • Law enforcement experience in Western Colorado preferred.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and or Field Training Officer experience.
  • Previous experience within a POST academy or in another law enforcement training environment.
  • Previous experience with and knowledge of Colorado POST rules and policies.
  • Recognized by Colorado POST (or equivalent) as a Full Skills Instructor in at least one of the following disciplines : Firearms, Driving, and / or Arrest Control.
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design and development for law enforcement courses of study.
  • Certification and instructional experience in reality-based training methodologies. Salary : $55, - 60, Commensurate with education and experience.
