Colorado Mesa University is Hiring a Pre award specialist Near Grand Junction, CO

The Office of Sponsored programs provides support to faculty and staff in the development and submission of research, instruction and outreach proposals for external funding and post-award management of sponsored projects.

The Pre-Award Specialist position will provide administrative and technical guidance and support, ensuring submission of high-quality proposals.

This position will work closely with the entire OSP team to ensure understanding of regulations, terms and conditions, etc. of any grants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the duties may be assigned :

  • Provide proposal project management services, working with partners to develop competitive proposals, respond to and manage grant opportunities, and coordinate work with individual faculty or staff members.
  • Assist in identifying potential grant opportunities for the Institution and potential Principal Investigators.

Seeking opportunities for process improvement.

  • Upon direction, execute new grant approval process and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of sustainable growth initiatives for grants and programs that align with the University strategic goals and those of the CMU research community.
  • Lead and direct pre-award operations including oversight for personnel, information technology, finances (proposal budgets) and other resources.
  • Assist in award set up activities (in accordance with terms and conditions), including a transition plan to the compliance specialist and post-award management, communication to appropriate CMU parties and departments, etc.

This also includes assisting in the creation of the award brief, master files and compliance calendars to meet deliverables.

  • Interpret and abide by federal and state laws and regulations and university policies regarding pre-award activities and compliance.
  • Evaluate, establish, and maintain internal and external collaborations to accomplish pre-award goals and objectives effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain training materials and communication mechanisms to include instructional and training workshops for key stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR, IT and other key University groups to streamline processes and reduce administrative burdens on proposal development and subsequent management.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding issues that arise during the research and agreement administration processes and provide advice and counsel to constituents
  • Manage existing and prospective funder relationships, including solicitation, strategy, proposal development and grant management
  • Work jointly with the Research Compliance Specialist throughout the pre-award and proposal processes to ensure contractual compliance on agreements and subawards in accordance with federal, state and institution policy.
  • Track and maintain data for Pre-Award activities, including proposal metrics, number of inquiries, dollar amount of sponsored award portfolio, etc.
  • Act as a liaison with Western Colorado Community College and the CMU Montrose Campus for grant oversight and administration.

Minimum Qualifications Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Experience assessing grant applications and writing grant narratives.
  • Proven record of establishing and nurturing productive collaborative relationships, with the ability to work positively with a wide range of faculty, staff and students Preferred Qualifications :
  • 2-5 years of demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience in higher education setting.
  • Previous success developing highly competitive major grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with grant funding policies and procedures and programs specific to programming that has supported underserved student populations.
