Professional Staff Assistant to the Director of Public Safety Department
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The Professional Staff Assistant to the Director of the Public Safety Department is responsible to assist with all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Public Safety Department. The Professional Staff Assistant will assist in developing, directing, and coordinating daily operations by providing administrative assistance to the Director. Operations include responding to student, faculty/instructor, and business partner concerns; maintaining student, faculty, and partner records; scheduling academic courses; and ensuring compliance with all Colorado POST Board standards and requirements. This position is a dynamic role that will require experience in a variety of areas. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides professional assistance to the Director of the Public Safety Department. Includes the authority to make and commit to administrative decisions on behalf of the Director in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Administers the scheduling of faculty/instructors in the Public Safety Department, including full time, part-time adjunct, and volunteer positions.
  • Acts as liaison with Public Safety Department advisory boards, including coordination of semi-annual meetings.
  • Fosters CMU Tech's strong partnership, collaboration, and communication with all public safety agency partners.
  • Administers recruitment and applications of prospective POST academy students.
  • Plans, organizes, and executes events and activities for the Public Safety Department, including orientations and graduations.
  • Ensures compliance with all Colorado POST Board standards and requirements, and keeps Director apprised of potential changes to those standards.
  • Assists Director with administrative duties related to the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center (CLETC) technical committee.
  • Assists Public Safety Director with management of financial operations, including preparation and submission of all program budgets, purchase requests, and assignment preps for part-time employees.
  • Maintains all Public Safety Department records.
  • Ensures FERPA policies are followed for any communication regarding students. Reviews, analyzes, and comprehends sensitive and legal/confidential materials in the Public Safety Department (e.g., FERPA). Advises and manages dissemination and coordination of such matters, utilizing correct protocols. Understands the role of FERPA in this environment.
  • Administration, scheduling, and representation of CMU Tech and the Public Safety Department with appropriate local, regional, and state-level organizations.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual reports on program enrollment, cost of operation, and further action proposals.
  • Helps field and resolve complaints and problems originating from students and instructors.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four (4) years of related experience in office/project management
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office Suite applications to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent organizational skills due to multiple assignments and fluctuating priorities.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing.
