Instructor of Nursing Practical Nurse Program - Montrose Campus
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: Colorado Mesa University is seeking qualified applicants for a non-tenure track Instructor of Nursing for the Practical Nurse program on the Montrose campus. This position has ongoing responsibility for facilitating student learning in the classroom, laboratory and/or clinical practice setting. The Instructor of Nursing also assumes joint responsibility with faculty in guiding student learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Supervise students’ performance of clinical skills in the lab and/or clinical setting. The clinical faculty/clinical scholar to student ratio is not more than 1:10.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty and agency contacts to arrange for clinical experiences in local health care facilities.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills as needed for student learning.
  • Supervise student performance of clinical skills and patient care.
  • Evaluate student performance in the clinical setting, including clinical written assignments under the direction and supervision of nursing faculty.
  • Reinforce theoretical and clinical content with nursing examples and clinical expectations.
  • Develop positive relationships with other faculty, students, and the clinical sites.
  • Facilitate socialization of students into the professional registered nurse role.
  • Teach assigned classes. This includes content preparation with an emphasis on student engagement and adult learning theory.
  • Classroom management skills and use of CMU’s learning management system platform required. 
  • Presenting to all students attending class, in writing and within the time span established by departmental policy, a course description, policies, and grading criteria.
  • Establishing, posting, and keeping a minimum of five office hours weekly during each academic term of the academic year. 
  • The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities. 
Required Qualifications: 
A current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
A minimum of one year of clinical experience relevant to the area(s) of responsibility with not less than 2 years of full-time (or equivalent) professional nursing practice.
Hold a minimum of a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university with national nursing accreditation. 
•If the graduate degree is non-nursing, the individual must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and demonstrate evidence of the graduate degree being in a field relevant to the area of responsibility, OR
•If an applicant is in a graduate program, they must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and submit a written plan demonstrating ongoing progression in obtaining a graduate degree in nursing or in a field relevant to instructional content within 3 years of hire.
