JOB TITLE: Building Maintenance Technician (Full-Time)
DEPARTMENT: Health Department (Located Patee Market Health Center)
DIVISION: Administration
SALARY: $16.77/hr ($34,886.00/yr)

Job Summary/Scope
Performs general/light maintenance of all areas associated with Patee Market Health Center and responds to directions from direct supervisor or designee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs all custodial & general maintenance activities (e.g., sweeping, mopping, buffing, dusting, cleaning restrooms, trash disposal, changes light bulbs, etc.) in the upkeep of Patee Market Health Center’s interior areas occupied by health department staff and patrons, and all exterior areas, unless specifically maintained by another independently identified agency.
  • Performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs and replacements to existing fixtures.
  • Moves furniture and equipment and performs set-up in support of health department activities as requested.
  • Cleans and services heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, boiler and other mechanical equipment in use at facility, such as a surveillance and alarm systems.
  • Washes, cleans and paints all public use areas as instructed; strips and paints walls and hallways as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reports need for major building repairs to direct supervisor and assists in identifying sources for materials, including making vendor contacts.
  • Maintains proper supply and equipment inventory necessary to perform required duties.
  • Removes snow from and spreads ice remover on sidewalks surrounding the facility, as needed, in addition to snow and ice control services provided by outside contractor; maintains grounds immediately around the facility, including maintenance of green landscaped areas, watering of plant life, removal of weeds and other undesirable foliage, cleaning/removal of parking lot debris, or maintaining parking space paint striping.
  • Assembles furniture or other equipment as needed.
  • Maintains general use Health Department vehicles including miscellaneous minor repairs, washes and waxes, tire upkeep, interior cleanliness, including steam cleaning with portable cleaner and scheduling oil changes or major repairs.
  • Collects and transports recyclables to City’s recycling facility.
  • Communicates frequently and works closely with (Health Department) Custodian to coordinate building duties, ensuring all tasks are completed routinely.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skills in general facility maintenance, inventory and supply,
  • Ability to troubleshoot building maintenance problems and resolve.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with a snow blower, floor buffer, generator, surveillance equipment and other maintenance equipment helpful or ability to learn within a reasonable time after employment.
  • Knowledge of the basic equipment found in the office environment and exterior of building, including motorized equipment and power tools.
  • Ability to monitor HVAC system and boiler and follow directions.
  • Ability to respond to communications after working hours as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Three years related work experience required.
  • A valid Driver's License required.

Material and Equipment Directly Used

Use a variety of equipment for light custodial duties such as vacuum cleaner, steamer, duster, broom and mop. Operates various machinery, equipment, hand and power tools, shovels, clippers, buffers, power washer, etc., on a frequent basis to repair and maintain a variety of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and other general components of the facility. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and using arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing 75-100 pounds independently and assist in lifting objects weighing in-excess-of 100 pounds. Must have the ability to carry and maneuver a 25’ ladder and to climb a ladder to reach heights of 30’ or more to perform basic maintenance tasks, safely. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.
Leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in a trade such as electrical, plumbing or building maintenance, or facility system(s) operation such as HVAC or boiler maintenance and repair, preferred.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
