City of Richmond (CA) is Hiring an Equipment Operator, Senior (Stormwater/Wastewater Collections) Near Richmond, VA
The City of Richmond's Department of Public Utilities is seeking candidates to fill multiple Equipment Operator, Senior positions in the Storm Water, Floodwall & Wastewater Collection Divisions. The incumbents will be responsible for operating complex heavy motor vehicles, and machinery, perform routine maintenance procedures; install or remove structures/materials, and make equipment and infrastructure repairs.
Operating machinery, equipment and vehicles; managing equipment and vehicles; maintaining and/or ensuring vehicles and equipment receive needed maintenance; performing the duties of the Equipment Operator, and as needed/requested, attending training at the next level of Principal Equipment Operator in preparation of advancement or promotion; consulting work orders, route lists, maps, charts and/or blueprints in executing work; following safety protocols;
Maintaining and repairing equipment, roads, structures, grounds, parks, playing fields, and other facilities; and ensuring grounds are safe and meeting required standards, as assigned;
Assisting with special events and emergency situations;
Conducting supply inventory for area of responsibility, managing supplies;
Operating equipment to include but not limited to specialized equipment, machinery or vehicles such as; heavy construction vehicles, Bobcat W/Skid Loader bucket-trucks, backhoes, Sewer Vactor Trucks, Dump trucks (light and heavy), tandem trucks and Crew Cab Trucks with trailers and/or snow removal equipment, pressure sprayers, light paving equipment, hand grinders, walk behind grinders, boom truck, compressor dump trucks, Heavy Roller (greater than 4000 lb.) jackhammers, specialized excavation equipment, slope mowers, and tractor mounted graders, front-end loaders, ditch diggers, and other equipment as assigned.
Maintaining equipment, machinery, or vehicles in good working order;
Observing established protocols and procedures for safe operation and storage;
Performing routine maintenance;
Reporting damaged or unsafe equipment to supervisor;
Loading, transporting, and delivering refuse construction materials, supplies, or equipment;
Establishing safe work zones by erecting barricades and signs;
Directing traffic;
Maintain grounds through cutting grass; raking and shoveling various materials used to restore work sites;
Repairing minor masonry and concrete structures;
Operating various trucks and equipment, specialized vehicles and various types of cleaning equipment;
Assisting in installation and repair of sewer pipes and structures;
Loading, transporting, and delivering supplies;
Identifying and locating connections;
Evaluating conditions at main connections and manholes, types of pipe, grease deposits, debris, foreign objects, roots, cracks, corrosion, infiltration, bad joints, broken pipes and other abnormal conditions that might exist.
This position is considered an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbents are required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather. This individual may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays or on-call, as needed. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED;
Two years of experience at the Equipment Operator level and successfully completing training on the types of equipment that is used at this level of assignment;
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License;
A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License with proper endorsements in accordance with Department of Motor Vehicle regulations.
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
At least two (2) years of work experience operating a backhoe in a utilities excavating environment;
