Blue Phoenix Richmond is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near Richmond, VA

Job Summary

Responsible for operating heavy equipment to load the processing system on site. Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the system equipment as well as other duties assigned by the Plant Supervisor.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quickly become knowledgeable of the Company's systems and processes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a wheel loader and excavator to feed the system, load trailers, and stack material. Equipment sizes include wheel loaders sized at 46,000 pounds/275 HP and excavators sized at 78,000 pounds/270 HP.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of various mobile equipment, including fork truck, skid steer-type loader, person-lift, and pickup truck.
  • Troubleshoot and report all operational and mechanical deficiencies to the Plant Supervisor. Demonstrate mechanical abilities to conduct daily preventative maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment and grounds are kept clean and free of built-up ash and debris
  • Follow standard safety and environmental procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them to the Plant Supervisor immediately.
  • Read, understand and apply information, such as lockout/tagout procedures, safety and environmental rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Prepare and maintain daily and weekly logs, checklists and schedules as required.
  • Be available to support the operation by working a rotating shift and overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as requested and/or assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

None


Education and Experience

  • Experience working with aggregate in a production environment
  • Driver's license required; hoisting license strongly preferred
  • Heavy equipment operation experience, particularly excavator
  • Mechanical and maintenance skills

  • Ability to work effectively in adverse environmental conditions, including wet or humid conditions, airborne particles, potential exposure to dust, and chemicals, varied temperatures and outdoor weather conditions, and noise in the work environment

Physical Demands

  • Sit, stand, walk
  • Handle tools, equipment; fine motor skills
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet
  • Stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, crawl
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations
  • Lift 50 lbs.
  • Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces
  • Close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, corrected or otherwise
  • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200-lb. portable units
  • Access confined spaces
  • Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require donning and use of personal protective equipment with average fatigue
