The City of Richmond is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented team-player to join the City of Richmond Employment and Training Division as an Administrative Trainee. In this role you'll provide a variety of routine to complex office support by organizing and maintaining office files, interacting with both City employees and the public in a courteous and professional manner. Current vacancies exist in the City's Employment and Training Division; however, the established Employment List will be used to fill positions within other City Departments as vacancies occur.
Annual salary for this classification is as high as $64,321.20.

In addition to the salary shown, there is a Cost-of-Living Adjustments over the next year (beginning 01/01/2025) totaling4%.

Position Description and Duties

Under close supervision, performs paraprofessional duties in administration and management or in a specialized staff service and does other work as required.
This is a training or student intern class for those persons planning to enter the professional administrative and management fields, but who needs more experience and training in order to qualify for the entry level professional classes. Incumbents must possess alertness and basic maturity to permit professional development. Assignments may be departmental, general, financial, personnel, property, community services or record management. Although initial assignments may be relatively simple, they become increasingly difficult as the incumbent develops.
The most successful candidate has a professional history of being a quick learner, ability to work independently, excellent judgment, flexibility, fully competent to perform a variety of office support duties, and willingness to learn and be trained.

self-motivated, ability to work well with many leadership styles, ability to pivot, willingness to pitch in during critical times.

  • Performs simpler tasks while assisting in preparing budgets, maintaining accounting records, performing general records management, processing, personnel actions and examinations, compiling data for departmental and city-wide operations, analyzing interdepartmental and public relations, and assisting in a variety of other administrative functions.
  • Assists in making surveys, analyses, and reports by performing simpler tasks involved in obtaining facts, arraying facts, studying relationships, and reviewing report drafts prepared by others.
  • Obtains materials from specified sources; studies and summarizes materials.
  • Performs statistical and clerical work of moderate complexity as part of accomplishing assigned chores.
  • Assists in preparing information for public dissemination by coordinating the distribution of printed matter.

REQUIRED KSA FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Qualifying Phase:
All completed applications will be evaluated based on job-related qualifications criteria, which could include desirable qualifications and the specific needs of the hiring department(s). Candidates may be screened for better qualified.

Written Exam:
The written exam will measure the candidate's skills and abilities based on job-related criteria. These skills and abilities may include the ability to spell, punctuate, use correct grammar, comprehend written material, and make arithmetic computations. A score of 70% or better is required to pass. Rank on the Employment List will be determined solely by test score (weighted 100%). Having all of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement nor placement on the employment list.
The tentative date of the written examination is the week of March 25, 2004.

Employment Eligibility List:
A ranking of "A" (Best Qualified), "B" (Well Qualified), or "C" (Qualified) is required to achieve a position on the Employment Eligibility List. This List will be in effect for a maximum of two (2) years; however, the list may be canceled, without notice, after six (6) months.

Background Check:
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a background.
