City of Mesa is Hiring a Parks Maintenance Worker II Parks and Basins Maintenance Assignment Near Mesa, AZ

There are multiple vacancies in the Parks and Basins Maintenance Assignment.
First review of applications will be Monday, April 22, 2024, and weekly thereafter until the position is filled.
A Parks Maintenance Worker II works independently while performing a variety of semiskilled to skilled tasks in two or more trades or skill areas such as carpentry, welding, electrical, masonry, painting, or plumbing for the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of facilities, fixtures, and equipment at City parks, basins, golf courses, athletic/sports fields, and other recreational areas including, but not limited to: chain link fence repair and installation; and repair of parks, playgrounds, golf courses, stadium structures, facilities, and related equipment. Employees in this class may also provide functional supervision or lead direction and training for Parks Maintenance Assistants, Parks Maintenance Worker I's, temporary agency workers, or volunteers. This class performs related duties as required.
Parks and Basin Maintenance Assignment: Employees assigned to parks and basin maintenance perform construction, maintenance, repair, and related service activities for the City's parks and basins; including a variety of tasks in general trades and/or skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of facilities, fixtures, and recreational equipment at the City’s parks and other recreational areas. Duties include: inspection of park grounds, play facilities, building facilities, and other equipment; independently scheduling or completing related repairs; and planning and organizing work activities. Employees in this assignment are responsible for transporting, assembling, and dismantling bandshell and bleacher equipment for special events.
Supervision is received from a Parks Maintenance Leader or Parks and Community Facilities Maintenance Foreman (depending on assignment) who reviews work through observation, conferences, reports, and spot checking of results achieved. Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments. A Parks Maintenance Worker II may be subject to yearly rotational stand-by duty and 24-hour call-out; working evenings, early mornings, and weekend shifts. This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. Good (1 - 3 years) experience in a minimum of two of the building or related trades such as carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, plumbing, or welding.
Special Requirements. Must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.134 by hire or promotion date, and must maintain certification. Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructional Permit with Tanker Endorsement by hire or promotion date. The skills demonstration portion of the CDL test must be completed within 120 days of hire and will be administered by a City of Mesa Third Party Tester.

Substance Abuse Testing. This class is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382.
