Position Summary

Perform a variety of professional engineering duties in support of assigned projects including traffic engineering, transportation, drainage, and construction engineering; ensure the cost-effectiveness of City engineering projects and construction plans review; ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations and perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

ENGINEERING ASSISTANT, M-14
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Two (2) years of engineering experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE, M-15
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, plus two (2) years of engineering experience OR a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of EI (Engineer Intern) or EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate.

Preferred Knowledge

• Principles and practices of traffic engineering
• Principles of technical writing
• Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations
• Pertinent Federal, State and local Engineering Design Guidelines
• Proposed Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way (PROWAG)
• Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design

Preferred Skills & Abilities

• Review a variety of engineering plans and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and regulations
• Utilize computer programs and relevant to assigned area
• Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public in a friendly courteous manner
• Communicate clearly and concisely
