Summary:

  • Devises and develops design changes to equipment, components, or systems and prepares related installation, operation, and maintenance specifications, requirements, and instructions; analyzes equipment to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; analyzes technical proposals and related technical data to determine feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing equipment
  • Responsible for prototype construction and checkout; compiles operational data and prepares customer application information
  • Performs tests and analyzes equipment capability
  • Supports and assists management and team lead with organizational initiatives and objectives

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, prototypes, and tests new products, special instruments, and unique equipment to ensure equipment meets specific customer order requirements
  • Programs equipment to different simulations in outdoor environments as well as mechanical support, testing/operation of special equipment in field support activities
  • Supports technical bench and field setup, deployment, retrieval and repairs, with travel to remote site areas as required
  • Installs and integrates instruments and equipment into complex systems, participates in the design and execution of system-wide testing and debugging
  • Plans and performs testing and development and uses scientific methods to address and resolve technical problems
  • Performs technical evaluations of in-process, acceptance, and inspection equipment located in the field
  • Performs moderate to complex special technical assignments requiring significant data gathering, analysis, and systems integration
  • Locates and corrects malfunctions in product and testing equipment
  • Performs post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure
  • Determines acceptability of products and materials in conjunction with design agency, quality, and other affected organizations
  • Creates manufacturing routings in manufacturing execution system (MES)
  • Prototypes and authors build instructions
  • Reviews production plans with product and process engineers and recommends improvements
  • Reviews designs for manufacturability
