Axient is seeking ambitious aerospace, electrical, and/or mechanical engineering students with an interest in satellite design. This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico as part of our satellite manufacturing laboratory “Space Monkey.” Space Monkey specializes in concept, design, development, assembly, integration, and testing of components, subsystems, and integrated vehicles, primarily CubeSats.
This is a full-time position and offers a flexible work schedule. Start date for this position will depend on the candidate's last day of spring semester classes. Interviews should begin in January with selection in February 2024.
Applicants should be interested in one or more of the following projects to "own" for the summer. Tackling more than one project is desired, but not required. Interns will have access to resources and the engineering team for guidance with their projects, but a lot of the culture at Space Monkey is self-driven learning and independent work. We're looking for interns who can work these projects without constant hand-holding.
12U spacecraft solar panels and power system
The goal of this project is to complete a solar panel design, build and test the engineering unit, and make adjustments for the flight units. The intern would also assist the engineering team with power board design and test.
S-Band radio development with a focus on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA)
This goal of this project is to learn as much as possible about the Xilinx Zinq chip or an alternative to meet the radio’s design requirements.
12U spacecraft mechanical design and machining
The goal of this project is complete a mechanical design for the structure while integrating payload requirements. This project may also include assisting the engineering team with mechanical coil winding and initiating the design and build of a custom helmholtz cage. Preference for mechatronics experience.
Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS)
This project involves algorithm development and testing for an Axient-owned ADCS. The goal is to complete a system design with enough hardware to complete preliminary testing of the system.
