Position Title: Trainer/Senior Trainer

Reports To: Project Director

Employee Status: Full Time, Exempt 

Location/Office: NYC (CAI has a hybrid work schedule of working 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Trainer/Senior Trainer provides expert training and participates in the development of training designs, training materials and curriculum for CAI’s portfolio of Community Health Worker (CHW) programs.

  • Excellent virtual and classroom training platform presentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory.
  • Instructional design skills to develop or convert classroom to virtual training programs
  • Updating curricula and developing of new educational packages
  • Knowledge of learning technologies and their effective usage
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of trainers and curriculum designers
  • Knowledge of implementing cultural humility principles in training
  • Ability to translate technical material to training materials for different educational levels and cultural backgrounds 

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Translate personal knowledge and expertise into the delivery of practical, skills-based training programs.
  • Deliver training courses to a defined level of quality.
  • Participate in Training of Facilitators (TOF) and Training of Trainers (TOT) training opportunities to expand course repertoire.
  • Co-train with other staff trainers and/or consultants, as needed.
  • Provide support to online training production when needed.
  • Assist with the development of training curricula.
  • Support planning training calendars and coordinating with other CAI trainers to prepare and deliver trainings
  • Participate in advisory groups, focus groups, needs assessment activities, etc. as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of all training activities as outlined in trainer’s protocols.
  • Participate in all continuous quality improvement activities, including debriefing of every training event.
  • Provide ongoing phone and onsite technical assistance to agencies providing perinatal health services related to women’s health, breastfeeding, safe sleep, mental health, and family planning in NY.
  • Other duties as necessary/assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of a BA/BS in Public Health or related field, or equivalent experience, ideally a Masters in Public Health or related field.
  • Excellent training skills with at least two-years experience providing training
  • Experience working directly with marginalized or underserved communities, delivering training or other services
  • Experience working with CBOs, healthcare organizations, social service organizations that have employed or implemented programs with CHWs
  • Experience working with communities of color; and with communities disproportionately affected by structural and social determinants of health
  • Experience working as a CHWs or Peer or in a program that trained CHWs or Peers.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Community Health Worker Programs
    • Health Equity Principles
    • Maternal and Infant Health Issues
  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as oral & written communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility of schedule and ability to travel frequently.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in approach to training techniques.
  • Professional presentation and presence.
  • Excellent planning skills, extremely organized, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight) up to 25% time in New York State. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Trainer/Senior Trainer’s job. While performing the Trainer/Senior Trainer’s responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. This position requires the employee to be on-site at a CAI office. The employee is often required to sit and work at a desk for prolonged periods of time and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $70,000. CAI offers a generous benefits package including:
