ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022, our core programs and emergency services reached 200,000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. In the summer of 2022, CPC was recognized as the number one Chinese American organization in New York City to recommend to a Chinese immigrant looking for in-language and culturally competent resources according to a recent survey. PROGRAM SUMMARY

Department of Youth & Community Development/Comprehensive After School System (DYCD/COMPASS) contracts with the Chinese-American Planning Council to provide youth after school services to school-age children ages 5-12 years old. COMPASS seeks to promote positive youth development, foster social and emotional skills, and encourage youth leadership through engaging activities that incorporate hands-on learning in safe, welcoming environments. The program includes academic support, physical exercise, and enrichment age-appropriate activities such as literacy or STEM to enhance the academic, social, and physical development of children during the after-school hours and on certain school holidays.

JOB SUMMARY

CPC is looking for full-time Program Directors at each of the following sites:

  • PS 20Q John Bowne—142-30 Barclay Avenue, Flushing, NY 11355
  • Chrystie Street SACC—115 Chrystie Street, 1st Floor, New York, NY 10002

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversight
    • Overseeing all day-to-day operations involved in running the center
    • Hiring, training, supervising and inspiring a team of passionate, committed educational staff
    • Overseeing all the daily management of all the classrooms including but not limited to: maintaining required classroom group sizes and ratios; child attendance procedures; classroom opening and closing, mealtime and other routine-based activity procedures; program and classroom safety procedures; etc.
    • Overseeing educational environment and programming including but not limited to: providing necessary curriculum documents and resources, reviewing, providing feedback, and assessing classroom and program environments; etc.
    • Willing and able to explore and understand new communication platforms such as WeChat, ClassDojo, FAMLY
    • Scheduling information sessions with families, sharing promotional events trips, extracurricular activities
    • Registering and enrolling new families into the program, managing child schedules, collecting, and maintaining documents
    • Ability to multitask while remaining organized and completing tasks by assigned deadlines
    • Oversee budget development and expenditure tracking of program
    • Attend meetings and trainings as required by funders and CPC.
    • Report to and fulfill other program activities as required by the Director of Childhood Development Services.
  • Collaboration
    • Motivating staff by maintaining a positive attitude and leading by example
    • Being a team player, working alongside co-management effectively and efficiently
    • Develop and implement systems for family involvement/engagement.
    • Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationship with the school principal, school staff, after school staff and parents.
    • Establish partnerships with community organizations for resources and projects.
  • Cultural Understanding
    • Assisting in the creation of a positive, enjoyable work environment, maintaining confidentiality, encouraging trust and loyalty among all employees
    • Understanding your community members needs and dynamics (Staff and Families)
    • Create and develop strong parent and staff relationships that result in a high rate of retention and referrals
  • Licensing and Contract
    • Knowledge of all NYC DOHMH SACC licensing regulations and FDNY safety regulations
    • Knowledge of DYCD contract and requirements preferred
    • Adhere to all state and local educational and licensing requirement, policies and procedures; communicate and develop relationships with licensing departments as required
    • Ability to see the whole picture; working towards the center’s long-term goals including meeting standards and accreditation


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; and
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching in an Early Education setting; and
  • Minimum 1 years of supervisory experience

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and a love for working with children
  • Conducting self in a professional, courteous manner, maintaining a neat appearance and exhibiting strong customer service skills
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and customer service skills and ability to create and maintain partnerships with families and staff
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks or crisis situations effectively
  • Bilingual in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese), Spanish, Russian, or Arabic a plus.
  • Understanding of Elementary Age-Appropriate Curriculums preferred
  • Proficient computer literacy skills and knowledge of meeting and communication platforms (Excel; Microsoft Office/Teams; Zoom)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $58,560 - $62,400 annual equivalent salary; 35 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours
