Position Summary

Assist County Attorney and Assistant County Attorney in criminal and county issues. Operates computer, fax, copier, scanners, recording and video equipment, multi-line phone system and postage machine. File, answer phones and provides customer service and notary duties. Interacts with internal and external officials, bondsmen and the public. Assists law enforcement with criminal cases.

Maintains dockets for arraignment, pre-trial hearings and jury selection. Prepare, research, investigate, and subpoena witnesses for pre-trial hearings, bench trials, jury trial for misdemeanor criminal dockets and juvenile dockets. Prepares paperwork for misdemeanor criminal cases and juvenile misdemeanor and/or felony cases. Cooperates with the County Attorney Clerk to ensure functions of daily operations. Assist co-workers as needed.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Attend and prepare pre-trial dockets, pull files, check computer entries and file-prepare plea papers or other court paper document, enter notes, coordinate with county CCAL court coordinator, jail, coordinate with district attorney, work with county clerk, enter data on Net Data and prepare paperwork to close files, follow-up on files, prepare documents, request certified judgments, obtain lab from law enforcement agency or lab
  • Attend and prepare jury selection dockets, pull files, check computer entries and prepare court paperwork, enter notes, coordinate with county CCAL court coordinator, jail, district attorney, and county clerk, enter notes on Net Data and prepare paperwork
  • Prepare and coordinate subpoenas and paperwork for misdemeanor jury trials and bench trials, misdemeanor and/or felony juvenile trials, communicate with law enforcement, witnesses, victim, various experts, county clerk and

  • Determine by reviewing criminal history previous convictions in other counties, and preparing request for certified judgments
  • Testing online and authorized to access criminal history through DPS web site
  • Obtain jury pool list from district clerk, check jury pool for warrants, prior cases, convictions, open felony or misdemeanor cases
  • Prepare court paperwork and files for juvenile probation, file juvenile petitions with district clerk, record settings on calendars, co-ordinate with district judge office, juvenile probation, county attorney calendar, juvenile attorney
  • Notarize documents for CPS, juvenile probation, affidavit of non prosecution or other documents
  • Assist with jail run docket as needed, obtain offense report, check for felony or other cases, collect all cases, prepare paperwork, enter Net Data disposition or notes, close file
  • Prepare discovery fax, scan and email, or copy discovery for attorneys and copy DVD’s as needed
  • Prepares recall of warrants, FTA warrants, fax and communicate with county clerk, attorney, defendants, law enforcement to complete recall, enters note on file and Net Data, communicate to locate where warrant originated when not included in offense report
  • Pull and prepare paperwork for pleas if not on regular docket and close
  • Create forms and enter fields to enter into Net Data
  • Research issues, correct and report correct criminal history to CJIS
  • Prepare , pick up and deliver mail to post office and use postage machine for postage, certified return receipt letters or regular mail
  • Print detailed copies for CPS dockets
  • Schedule and coordinate calendar for justice of peace dockets, and check defendants for prior arrests-pending warrants or open cases
  • Pull file and complete Net Data entries for order of expunctions or order of non-disclosure
  • Verify if defendants are in custody in TDCJ or jail if needed through vinelink or TDCJ websites, phone verification or email
  • Answer phones and Defendants or general public questions with professionalism
  • Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

County Attorney Administrative Assistant

  • Train and assist co-workers as needed
  • Liaisons for County Attorney with the public, defense attorneys and agency officials
  • Help record calendar events on online calendar and book calendar
  • Work with various offices including county clerk, county court at law court coordinator, jail, adult probation, district attorney, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, bondsmen, justice of the peace, occasionally, deal with irate and/or defensive defendant, witness, victims, or general public by phone or in person
  • Make and help maintain appeal file cases

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree
  • Minimum two years experience in a prosecutor or criminal defense attorney office
  • Submit to fingerprinting by Sheriff’s Department and criminal background check
