Description

The programs provide a unique balance of client independence, education and support around medications, community skills, meals, housing success, nutrition and exercise, money management, and time management. The program is staffed 24 hour/7 days a week and staff assist in any area needed. The goal is to reduce the negative impact of an individual’s cycle of illness, improve function and quality of life, to teach skills to achieve a more independent living situation, and facilitate the person's attainment of life goals. Daily routines may be hectic and will likely require the Program Supervisor I to perform any or all of the site’s functions and, on occasion, performing the tasks of other employees as needed. 

TheProgram Supervisor I works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to implement and monitor treatment for residents within the residential facility, while supporting a Trauma Informed Care environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving mental health services, it is required the Program Supervisor I understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve. This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, client centered approach to assisting residents in achieving individual goals and ultimately transitioning to a less restrictive setting. The Program Supervisor I assures that program activities are administered in cooperation with treatment team members and as directed by the Program Manager. The employee will provide general and specific direction to team members, will be responsible for management of the program milieu, and serve as back up to those supervised

On the first of the month, following 60 days of employment, benefit eligible employees (20/hrs. or more per week) are able to enjoy affordable, low cost, medical, dental, and vision benefits. Essential Duties

This position description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities or an all inclusive job description.

  • Establish work plans and priorities for staff members, assess the progress of staff members and take corrective action as needed. Conduct performance reviews for staff members or provide the Program Manager with information necessary to assess performance.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff to ensure that program goals and objectives are met.
  • Assure that the program is adequately staffed and ensure coverage for shifts.
  • Coordinate with oncoming shift regarding resident concerns, building/program needs, and any issues relevant to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
  • Provide oversight for the medication program; oversee and participate in medication administration.
  • Under the direction of the Program Manager, develop and manage the therapeutic milieu.
  • Model therapeutic interventions and counseling with residents as needed or directed. Also assist staff members by helping to resolve difficult client/program situations.
  • Model individual and/or group training in living skills, supervision, and support in areas such as self-care, hygiene, community resources, and other life skills as directed by the plan of care.
  • Participate in regular supervision; attend clinical case conferences and staff meetings to gain knowledge and communicate program and resident needs.
  • May need to assist in meal set-up, preparation, serving, and clean up related to meal times or cooking group activities. Perform other household chores as needed, including but not limited to, light housekeeping and cleaning of biohazards. May need to accompany residents to, and assist residents during medical appointments in the community.
  • Prepare various reports for the Program Manager or other stakeholders as required/requested, and monitor expenditures and use of agency/program resources, making suggestions and putting plans into action to promote efficiency.
  • Assure that staff members maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation associated with billing, assessment, treatment, clients’ progress and other activities as required.
  • Comply with and implement the regulations, policies, and procedures under which the facility is licensed and operates.
  • Practice and demonstrate competency in avoidance, preventing escalation to avoid crisis situations or to neutralize crises in progress.
  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the treatment team with interventions which support a trauma informed environment for residents and staff. Respect and honor client rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Document and maintain electronic health record (EHR) and ancillary records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies, program procedures and local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation as required, associated with billing, assessment, treatment, residents’ progress and other activities.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for safety of residents, staff and property; is familiar with fire regulations and evacuation procedures.
  • Provide input into the establishment of operational procedures.
  • Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements.
  • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as defined by the agency and program.
  • Attend and participates in all meetings as assigned.
  • Is able to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR/ First Aid certifications are required and must remain current.
  • Remain awake on all shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of mental health work experience or combination of work experience and education. Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBO.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience providing inpatient or outpatient services is preferred.
  • Experience providing supervision is a plus
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Dialectical Behavior Therapy
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care environment principles
  • Understanding of Illness Management and Recovery principles
  • Skills necessary for strengths-based services provision
  • Operate computer hardware and software (including EMR software) at a level needed to effectively perform job functions
  • Enter and retrieve data and prepare simple reports
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, three year driving history; clean driving record, ability to pass Driver Motor Vehicle (DMV) check and complete the Cascadia online Defensive Driving course.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: Work is performed in a residential setting. Daily routines may be hectic and will likely require the Program Supervisor I to perform any or all of the site’s functions and, on occasion, performing the tasks of other employees as needed. Meal periods and breaks are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise and contaminants.
  • Mental: The work assigned is diverse and involves addressing new and unusual circumstances in which outcomes may negatively affect costs, employee morale or clients. The work regularly involves a degree of unpredictability and disruption of planned tasks requiring a flexible time management approach.
  • Physical: Activities and structure support community integration and assist program clients in learning socially acceptable behaviors. The Program Supervisor I must have the ability to assist residents in participating in a variety of active leisure and recreational events, as well as skill building outings and accessing community resources. The employee must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all residents and staff in potentially volatile situations
