CARES of NY, Inc. is Hiring an Associate Director of Planning Near Albany, NY

Description

CARES of NY, Inc. (CARES) collaborates with and supports our communities towards the creation of systems that end and prevent homelessness. We envision that all people have access to safe, affordable housing and the social supports to remain housed. CARES offices are in Albany, NY, however our customers and partner agencies are located throughout 37 counties in NYS. That is approximately 65% of the State. We have been growing since 1990, with most of our new hires made recently.

SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Planning plays a key role in leading Planning team members to coordinate and implement regulatory requirements and develop strategic visioning of Affiliated Continuums of Care (CoCs). The Associate Director oversees Planning team members’ daily operations, primarily supervising unit employees and working towards the execution of plans and projects assigned by the Unit Director. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and supervisor team members including: providing critical professional feedback, participate in the onboarding of new employee.
  • Promote and encourage teamwork among employees and managers within the team and between departments in collaboration with the Planning Unit Director. 
  • In collaboration with the Planning Unit Director, align department’s annual goals and team member expectations in support of the organization’s overall goals. Particular attention will be paid to CoC regulatory requirements, and strategic visioning.
  • Ensure administrative and community building support is provided to both CoC boards and memberships (including committees) in accordance with each CoC’s Scope of Work and applicable HUD priorities and regulations.
  • Curate and implement initiatives that create systems changes in addressing homelessness by researching national best practices and responding to local needs identified by Community Organizers.
  • Collaborate with Team Leads and Community Organizers to support implementation of the strategic vision for each CoC by identifying local community needs and supporting Community Organizers in rallying stakeholders to make systems change. 
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an organized plan for conducting Partners in Progress trainings, panels, forums, and presentations on addressing homelessness at the micro and macro levels, in coordination with the Team Lead and Associate Director and Director of Planning. Includes researching and brainstorming nationally identified best practices. 
  • Provide direction on other initiatives as needed, such as the regional advisory board on youth homelessness and unsheltered point in time count.
  • Maintain an organized plan for delegated activities across the Planning team for the rank and review and governance projects.
  • Project management of adherence to annual regulatory requirements including but not limited to scopes of work, CoC registration, grant inventory management
  • Oversee unit schedules and daily plans
  • Complete delegated administrative tasks
  • Supervise daily operations of unit team members
  • Monitor progress on delegated tasks
  • Annually support the successful submission of CoC applications
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices within the field

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred. 

EXPERIENCE

  • 7-10 years minimum working experience in a related field

  • Knowledge of HUD regulations and provision of homeless service concepts preferred. 
  • Experience in micro-level direct service provision with the ability to apply such experience to addressing homelessness at the macro-level preferred.
  • Adaptable and exemplifies flexibility with changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Excellent verbal communication and rapport-building skills required. 
  • Excellent organization skills, strong attention to detail, and a high level of integrity and confidentiality required. 
  • Creativity and demonstrated problem solving ability required. 
  • Proficiency in word processing, desktop publishing, creating spreadsheets, proofreading and data compilation required. 
  • Must be comfortable working with families and individuals from various backgrounds and life experiences. 
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. 

TRAVEL

  • Travel in the field as necessary.

WORK WEEK

  • Full time role, 40 hours per week.

SALARY RANGE

  • $78,000-$80,000
