CareFirst is Hiring a Remote Director, Vendor Management (Remote)

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE: Provides leadership to CareFirst's third-party vendor management strategy and execution. The Director helps to build the vendor management office at CareFirst and will collaborate with leaders and internal stakeholders across all Business Units to ensure that the management of vendors is executed consistently and efficiently across all levels. Such strategies will be employed to reduce vendor risk, improve vendor performance, maximize the value and opportunity to improve performance, and decrease cost within vendor relationships. Partners proactively with the business to influence behavior.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Build and lead the establishment of a vendor management office at the organization by providing long term vision and execution strategies from hiring and training talent to driving VM initiatives.
  • Create, maintain, and lead the delivery of policies, standards, procedures, communication and training strategies to support and sustain the VM initiatives.
  • Drive progressive strategies that deliver cost efficiencies, improved performance and mitigation of risk across our vendor population, including RFP, procurement and VM, oversight and financial optimization of third-party contracts, and asset monitoring.
  • Provides insight to business units and Executive leadership on current vendor relationships, including spend, relationship health and vendor performance, as well as providing mitigation options for any vendor-related issues and risks.
  • Oversee vendor segmentation process and ensure vendors are appropriately classified based on vendor and risk tiers.
  • Strategies will be employed to reduce vendor risk, improve vendor performance, maximize the value and opportunity to improve performance, and decrease cost within vendor relationships. Partners proactively with the business to influence behavior. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:This position manages people.QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.Experience: 8 years' experience in purchasing, procurement, supplier collaboration, development and/or compliance, or experience in managing internal/external partners or vendor relationships and experience managing initiatives or projects with one or more partners and 3 years' management experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to learn new software and vendor management tools.
  • Ability to quickly and consistently establish rapport to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, team members, and service providers .
  • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management. 
  • Knowledge of negotiating contracts and work orders.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging. 

Salary Range: $135,600 - $251,708

This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilites of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business consideration. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances, including but not limited to experience, internal equity, and location. In addition to your compensation, CareFirst offers a comprehensive benefits package, various incentive programs/plans, and 401k contribution programs/plans (all benefits/incentives are subject to eligibility requirements).
