This position is open to Alaskan Residents only.

Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

As the Lead Administrative Assistant over the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, you will work behind the scenes on interesting, meaningful and rewarding work, supporting investigative teams of Alaska's highest caliber such as Major Crimes, Cold Cases, and Technical Crimes. There are no average days - you will need to quickly adapt to shifting priorities, manage constant interruptions, and collaborate with other administrative staff to ensure necessary tasks are completed. The duties vary widely, requiring diverse skills. Examples range from writing position descriptions to clearing credit card charges; or reviewing redacted investigative materials to leading hiring boards.

OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:

Our mission is public safety - and while the investigators do the glamorous work of fighting crime, the administrative staff work just as hard to keep the lights on, workers paid, and sticky notes stocked. We serve as the backbone of our team and value attention to detail, flexibility, a heart for service, and dedication to the mission of the Bureau.

THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM:

This position will enjoy many benefits:

* The satisfaction of working with a professional team of highly skilled individuals.

* Having a stake in the mission of preserving the peace, enforcing the law, preventing and detecting crime, and protecting life and property.

* A wide variety of duties and the freedom to work independently.

* Opportunities to be creative; frequently you will find yourself unraveling a problem and puzzling out a solution.

* The influence and experience to suggest updates, modifications, and improvements to command staff for the benefit of the Bureau.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is situated in a rustic and historical building in Anchorage nestled at the foot of the beautiful Chugach Mountains. The successful applicant will enjoy the occasional office lunch party, a cozy office, and a fast-paced, supportive work environment.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

* Thorough understanding of administrative functions and the ability to lead an administrative staff, preferably including experience with the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) Human Resources Management program.

* Experience with and understanding of basic accounting principles and monitoring expenditures, preferably including experience with the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) Financial/Procurement program.

* Ability to multi-task with numerous interruptions while remaining organized and prioritizing a large workload.

* Ability to identify problems and their root causes and tactfully recommend solutions.

* Experience working with and maintaining the integrity of confidential/sensitive information.

The Department of Public Safety strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. All positions support or carry out the Department's mission. If our mission interests you and this position embodies your strengths, please consider joining our team.
