Brooke Charter Schools is Hiring an Accountant Near Boston, MA

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Accountant will play a key part in the Network Finance, Human Resource and Operations Office. This role will work in close coordination with the Director of Finance and Operations, Accounting and Payroll Manager, and the Accounts Payable Coordinator to provide support in the monthly accounting cycle, financial reporting, state and federal compliance reporting, and payroll experiences. This person will interact with employees, vendors, and contractors as a representative of Brooke Charter School, and is expected to maintain the highest standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and responsiveness. The role is in person and might require travel between school campuses, external meetings, direct school based operational assistance and other activities related to the role. Compensation for this role starts at $60k. 

Specific responsibilities related to the day-to-day operations include:

Accounting

  • Perform bank reconciliations of all bank accounts
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations such as fixed assets, prepaids, and accrued expenses
  • Manage the accounting receivable and cash deposit function, including preparing and sending invoices to customers
  • Prepare manual and adjusting journal entries
  • Support the month-end close activities and preparations for annual audits
  • Evaluating and Closing purchase orders
  • Ensure coding of all revenue & expenses are properly aligned with approved budgets

Budgeting

  • Assist with planning and budgeting, and procurement for specific operational accounts such as operating leases and capital requisitions

Payroll & Benefits

  • Process bi-weekly payroll under the supervision of the Accounting and Payroll Manager
  • Assist with the reconciliations related to benefit services

Internal and External Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial reports for external stakeholder including the DESE, and grant makers
  • Prepare school and departmental monthly and ad hoc financial reporting including budget v. actual analysis and forecasting
  • Aid in the preparation of the quarterly reporting for Brooke Board Directors
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, quarterly financial reviews and reconciliations, and annual Fiscal Year and Calendar Year audits

Grant Management

  • Support the development of Federal and State grant budgets, on-going reporting requirements, and grant-specific audits under the guidance of Director of Finance and Operations
  • Monthly requisition of grant funds
  • Allocate public and private grants to non-payroll expense transactions

Other

  • Support Brooke’s Supplier Vendor Initiative
  • Assist with compliance activities related to the Nutrition and Transportation programs.
  • Identify opportunities and work to solve for operational efficiencies including implementing new processes and systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Operations commensurate with the role of Account
