Job Description
BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. We have 60 locations throughout the borough providing a variety of programs that offer assistance in the areas of family, children and youth support, educational services, elder care, homelessness, mental health, and workforce development. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop strong relationships with school administration, teachers, parents, and students to improve school success and program cohesion
  • Conduct a collaborative community assessment to determine ongoing needs of students and families
  • Identify needs of chronically absent students
  • Conduct outreach to students and families and facilitate referral process to available resources
  • Coordinate and host monthly community events, build community relationships, and assist with data collection
  • Advise a small caseload of 7 students

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with high school aged youth, educators, families, and communities is necessary
  • Experience working in school-based settings is essential
  • Knowledge of community organizing, student support services, and youth development principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required
  • Prior event planning experience is a MUST
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency is preferred but not required

PROGRAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to the Non-discrimination and Equal Opportunity provisions for Workforce S Skills/Abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business applications
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of me
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory
