Salary: 65,000- 77k

Global Kids (GK) educates, inspires, and mobilizes youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. The Director will be responsible for overseeing various core components of our Out-of-School-Time programming. This includes managing Social and Emotional wellness programs, college and career preparation initiatives, academic enrichment activities, and service-learning opportunities. We are specifically looking for a candidate who is well-equipped to oversee global education and youth leadership programming, fostering a sense of global awareness and empowering young individuals to become leaders in their communities.

The Community School Site Director will coordinate several core components of the community school initiative, which include attendance interventions, parent engagement activities, social and emotional wellness programs, college and career preparation, and community outreach, as well as oversee Global Kids' programming. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in leadership roles and familiarity with New York City schools working with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

School & Community Partnerships

  • Work closely with the school principal to provide leadership in coordinating the work of different partners and aligning the work of partners within the school.
  • Work collaboratively with school administrators and staff to develop, implement, and assess the Community School initiatives within the school.
  • Develop strong relationships with parents, students, and teachers. Ensure that all stakeholders understand what a community school is and how it supports student achievement- especially regarding developing, implementing, and assessing the Community School initiatives.
  • Identify and contract with outside organizations to bring adequate external resources to the partner school.
  • Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and track progress.
  • Organize Community School Team (CST) Meetings to support the development of the school's Community School Plan and/or community school components of the school's CEP.

Data Management, Outcomes & Evaluation

  • Organize and oversee an annual "Assets and Needs Assessment" for the school community to seek input from all stakeholders in the school community to determine the ongoing needs of students and families.
  • Maintain student and program documents.
  • Assist with data collection and research, and prepare relevant data for outcomes evaluation and data-based decision-making.

Attendance

  • With input from community partners, identify the needs of chronically absent and high-needs students, apply interventions, and track and monitor the impact of interventions every week as part of weekly Student Success meetings to determine the ongoing needs of students and families to address barriers to school attendance.
  • Manage and conduct attendance outreach, recruitment, and retention services, including attendance monitoring/data review, data entry, conferences, attendance incentive activities, and phone calls.
  • Remain informed on current Community Schools/Attendance Intervention and Dropout Prevention guidelines and contractor responsibilities; attend provider meetings; CSD training and maintain contact with DOE/OCS Program Manager.

Supervision and Management

  • Provide support, management, and supervision of school-based Global Kids staff, including daily tasks management, weekly staff check-ins, daily program observations with immediate feedback, and performance evaluations.
  • Review and approve staff time sheets and school sign-in sheets bi-weekly.
  • Ensure Global Kids and school staff members know about changes and developments to contractual and programmatic guidelines and expectations.

School Day and Extended Learning Day Programming

  • Work with CST, school faculty, and other school partners to effectively link school day to extended day learning opportunities and afterschool programming and ensure these services are implemented with fidelity and work to achieve key youth development outcomes in the areas of academic achievement, health and wellness, and character and leadership.
  • Coordinate and co-facilitate interactive, experiential workshops and activities for GK's weekly school-day and after-school programs and ensure the implementation of quality programming.
  • Organize special events, including annual Community Forum, mini-conferences, parent nights, performances, and other events.
  • Ensure student and Global Kids' staff participation in Global Kids' citywide events.
  • Attend school events, which may happen during after-school hours or on weekends.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to site-based leadership (i.e., School Principal) and serve as GK liaison to all school-based leadership teams and associations where appropriate.
  • Serve as primary contact for all site-based program partners and other site-based stakeholders, including parents/guardians.
  • Support in quality assurance reporting for all GK out-of-school time services at the assigned site.
  • Work with the Director of Operations and Community Schools to ensure that sites are adequately resourced, operational, and have proper safety measures.
  • Occasional overnight and long-distance travel is required.

Administrative Tasks

  • Ensure all program and student records (digital and hard copy) are securely maintained, including but not limited to workshops, field trips, student attendance, and incentive forms.
  • Ensure attendance and other data are entered into funder database systems.
  • Follow, and ensure staff follows all GK fiscal procedures for ordering supplies and reporting expenses.
  • Submit quarterly program reports and principal reports.

College and Career Preparedness

  • Oversee the GK Team's assistance to students and families with all aspects of the college application process, including financial aid.
  • Coordinate with school guidance staff on the college application process.
  • Coordinate opportunities for students to explore alternative post-secondary plans.

Coordination of Social Services

  • Serve as a point person for coordinating critical health/mental health resource implementation and other supports for students and their families.
  • Identify local community resources and broker new partnerships aligned with school goals and needs.
  • Develop and institutionalize partnerships with external social service and community development partners.
  • Attend to additional duties as assigned by the Director of Community Schools.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a related field or five years of professional experience is required.
  • Experience working within the New York City Department of Education and knowledge of Department of Education policies and protocols.
  • Experience and ability to work with youth and/or use interactive learning strategies in culturally diverse settings.
  • Experience in community organizing and/or community outreach
  • Experience supervising personnel and managing teams is required.
  • Experience managing large contracts and meeting multiple contractual obligations
  • Experience working in school-based settings with knowledge about community organizing, student support services, and youth development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with school administrators, teachers, and community partners.
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices
  • Knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education, and social activism.
  • Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus.
  • COVID vaccination required.

Salary/Benefits: This full-time, exempt position has an annual salary range of $65,000 to $77,000. GK also offers affordable medical benefits (with plans as low as $1/month), dental and life insurance, paid holidays, and 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, three personal days, and eight sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas and New Year's Day. GK staff can also access retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
