Brekhus Tile & Stone is Hiring a Controller Near Denver, CO

THE IMPORTANT WORK YOU WILL BE DOING

The Construction Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health of our construction projects. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset to improve financial processes, ensure accuracy in financial statements, and support project teams in financial decision-making.

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, specifically tailored to the construction industry.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, including journal entries, reconciling accounts, as well as quarterly and year-end tax filings.
  • Primary liaison for the banks and 401(k) audits.
  • Ensure the continued growth of the accounting staff through planning and cross-training.
  • Lead the accounting team, providing guidance and support in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial consultants as required.
  • Develop and refine financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and financial integrity.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual audit/review.
  • Help in developing reports for management or regulatory bodies.
  • Performs all other duties as necessary and/or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years if experience in a financial leadership role within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting practices, including percentage-of-completion and cost-to-cost methods.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally accepted accounting principles) and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes. (Budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Sage Contractor 100 preferred.
  • Cost accounting experience preferred.

YOUR WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position requires working in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, use of computer equipment, reach, kneel, climb, talk, and hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The duties of this job are performed in either office and/or at job sites, thereby experiencing some minor to minor to moderate level of noise due to machine equipment. Brekhus requires all employees who drive their personnel or a company vehicle in the routine performance of their jobs to have a valid Driver’s License. They must also provide proof of valid insurance. May require extended hours to meet customer's needs.
