Company Description

Square Financial Services, Inc ("SFS") is Block's bank. We opened in March 2021 and provide lending and FDIC insured deposits services to small businesses on a nationwide basis. The SFS Product & Strategy team enables the bank with modern infrastructure and high-quality services. It is responsible for recommending and executing the Bank’s strategic roadmap. 

Job Description

SFS is looking for a Business Developer to join our Product & Strategy team and help build SFS to be Block’s Bank of Choice. Today, SFS supports small businesses; going forward, SFS will look to integrate across the Block ecosystem and support product teams outside SFS with their banking needs. 

As the Business Developer you will promote SFS’s efforts to bring more of Block’s products into SFS. You will identify and nurture opportunities to grow the Bank. You will assist in the implementation of these opportunities. You will bring creativity to take advantage of our shared opportunities with product owners across Block. In this role you will report to the Business Development & Strategy Lead and work closely with other SFS teams to implement new products, partnerships and features. You will strategize on a 3-5 year timeline while executing voraciously against each quarter's deliverables. 

As the Business Development & Strategy Manager on the SFS team you will: 

  • Identify, develop and nurture relationships with potential customers, both internal and external to Block. Your initial focus will be on internal customers. 

  • Help create and nurture the SFS business development pipeline. You will collaborate with your lead to identify and recommend a roadmap to the Banks Board of Directors. 

  • Relentlessly notate, follow up and track to completion, every action item needed to continue to develop each opportunity. 

  • Guide new opportunities through the necessary approval processes both internally and with applicable regulatory agencies. 

  • Support the onboarding of new products, partnerships and customers into the Bank. 

  • Understand the products, business strategy and roadmap for the customers you’re looking to bring into the Bank. 

  • Empathize and advocate for the Bank, Block’s business units, Block’s products and our end-users. 

  • Work with our Block Business Units to assess new products, strategies and features. 

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure new products, partnerships and customers and align with the SFS policy as well as meeting all regulatory, legal, and operational standards. 

  • Collaborate with Business Unit and SFS stakeholders to guide the Bank’s strategic roadmap.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement & deliver on our strategic roadmap.

  • Identify issues and risks and clearly communicate to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 6 years of operations / business development / program management or equivalent experience related to Banking / Lending / Banking as a Service.

  • Experience with consumer or commercial payments, deposits and lending products. 

  • Experience resolving complex multi party negotiations. 

  • Experience creating project plans for longer term complex projects.

  • You lead by influence -- not authority -- to foster trust across the organization.

  • Strong project management, relationship management and organizational skills. Working collaboratively with many teams to ensure the smooth implementation and launch of new products and services

  • Manage multiple work streams that have ambiguous requirements.

  • Experience and desire to create strong documentation (Memos. Presentations, etc) to communicate strategy and project progress.

  • Experience working under a regulated financial institution or Fintech.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $135,200 - USD $202,800
Zone B: USD $125,800 - USD $188,600
Zone C: USD $119,000 - USD $178,400
Zone D: USD $108,200 - USD $162,200
