JOB DESCRIPTION | Event Catering Supervisor 

Department: FOH - Off Site Event Lead

Supervisors: Chelsey Lange, Jasmine Vukmarkovic, and Annilee Taylor of the Event Production team

Hours: This is an Hourly Position, FT/PT depending on season

Job Summary

The Event Catering Supervisor works with the event production team to execute a beautifully catered event, off-site at venues all over Chicago. The Event Catering Supervisor position leads other staff by example, directs and delegates set‐up and breakdown to Event Captains and staff, as well as managing food and beverage service throughout the event. The utmost importance is put on taking care of the client in a timely, courteous, and efficient manner. All functions are carried out to maintain an environment of teamwork. This position also includes meeting with the Event Production team to discuss the scope of events and review all details in advance, and follow up after events.

The ideal candidate would be someone who is creative, has a flexible schedule and has at a minimum two years of catering or restaurant industry experience. Availability on evenings and weekends is required. You are able to pick up events at will. This is a great side job! 

Event Supervisor | Banquet Captain Duties

• Oversee events with timely, courteous, and efficient leadership and customer service skills
• Act as the on-site contact and BDP representative for the client in the absence of the Event Production Team
• Report to the event site and walk through event space prior to unloading the vehicle
• Assign staff roles and responsibilities, train as needed
• Ensure that all staff report to work and report any absent or late arrivals 
• Inspect staff grooming and uniforms, rectify any deficiencies
• Hold pre-shift meeting in conjunction with the Event Production Team to review menu and service standards
• Coordinate service with the Event Production Team and the kitchen
• Anticipate client/guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all requests
• Monitor and handle all client/guest concerns or complaints
• Communicate with other vendors and on-site management
• Supervise event functions to ensure all run smoothly and efficiently
• Ensure compliance with venue policies and procedures throughout the event 
• Maintain all areas with proper supplies, organization, and cleanliness
• Kindly and effectively instruct staff to rectify any organization/cleanliness deficiencies
• Coordinate breaks for all FOH staff
• Communicate additions or changes to staff assignments as they arise, remaining flexible is key
• Ensure all staff duties are completed before staff sign out
• Conduct a walkthrough of the venue with the venue’s representative prior to departure
• Complete Event Report at the end of each event, sending to Event Producer directly
• Report to BDP to pack necessary equipment, and return equipment to BDP after event
• Uphold and ensure compliance with all Big Delicious Planet standards

Skills and Requirements 

• Must be fully vaccinated
• At least two years experience in event catering or restaurant experience
• Has an Illinois approved BASSET, Food Handler, and Allergen Certificate within 30 days of hire
• Knowledge in plated table service, family style service, and buffet services. General knowledge and interest in food and beverage service and trends.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule 
• Ability to put together a beautiful food display within the style of BDP
• Regular and dependable attendance 
• Resourceful and exhibits problem-solving skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Oral and a limited amount of written communication 
• Knowledge of food and wine trends
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 
• Must be able to lift, bend, push, move some heavy equipment and rental items.
