Description
Summary: Under general direction from the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the daily operations for the facility including but not limited to: event setups/teardowns, ice maintenance, building set/strike and conversions. Assist other Operations departments as needed.

Examples of Duties
Job Functions:
· Oversee and assist with the set-up of events including, but not limited to: basketball court, ice rink, concert stages and convention set up; coordinate facility arrangements with concessionaires and vendors; direct and monitor the work of contractors.
· Maintain, cut and treat the ice when in season. This includes all aspects of making and taking ice out as well as daily maintenance and driving Zamboni during ice events.
· Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; Provide or coordinate staff training; Work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedure; schedule and monitor employees hours; manage payroll of personnel under functional jurisdiction
· Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for operations personnel; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; inspect work product of subordinates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures and to identify and resolve challenges.
· Daily, weekly and monthly walk thru inspections: Walk all areas of the building to ensure all equipment is stored appropriately and venue is “clean.”
· Work closely with maintenance staff to identify any building issues and get repaired in a timely manner.
· Work closely with Event Managers to ensure all event set up is done correctly and timely
· Closely track department expenses and ensure we stay within budget; Keep track of all large unbudgeted expenses that come up; participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; order supplies and materials and approve expenditures.
· Keep accurate and current inventory of all building equipment.
· Ensure compliance with the departmental standards and reporting requirements; assist in managing the facility’s use of the Micromain software application.
· Operate a wide variety of equipment including vans, pick-up trucks, forklifts, high-lifts, floor Zamboni ice re-surfacer and other vehicles as required.
· Maintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner.
· Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations.
· As directed, conduct a variety of industry related operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; implement approved modifications.
· Attend internal meetings representing the Operations Department.
· Special Assignments or projects as requested by GM or AGM.
Ability To:
· Work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
· Work under high pressure in meeting urgent deadlines.
· Plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
· Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and facility users.
· Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended numbers of days.
· Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and written.

Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in ice making and event set-up in an ice rink, convention center, sports venue or other public assembly facility, with at least one (1) year of supervisory responsibility.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business management, sports management, marketing, public relations, business administration or other related field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Licenses or Certificates:
· Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license.
Physical demands:
While performing duties of job, employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch and bend over; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Contact with water, liquids or cleaning material. Exposure to dirt and dust. Rotating shifts, extended hours and emergency call-ins. Work in cramped spaces.
