Travel: A minimum three days on-site per week and as needed. Remote work is arranged on the rest of the working days including meetings. (Subject to change).
Barrier Free Living:
Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and nonresidential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues. Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services.
Barrier Free Living Apartments:
Barrier Free Living Apartments (BFLA) is a supportive housing program. BFLA offers services to vulnerable and needy populations with disabilities who are survivors of domestic violence, specifically, homeless disabled adults and disabled veterans and for families who have a head of household with a disabling medical condition. BFLA’s program is physically designed and equipped to serve people with physical disabilities. The facility is located in the South Bronx. There are two buildings: a 70-unit studio apartment building for adult singles and a 50-unit apartment building for families. BFLA’s supportive housing program is located on Cypress Avenue and East 138 th /139 th Streets.
Position Summary:
The Program Director is responsible for the operation and oversight of BFL’s Supportive Housing Program Singles Building (70 studios) and the Family Building(19 one bedroom and 31 two bedroom apartments). This position reports to the Chief Program Officer and is a member of the Leadership Team. The Director will be expected to be available on an on call basis. They provide direct supervision to the Directors of Social Services for the Single and Family buildings, the Wellness Coordinator, the Senior Childcare Worker, and the Resident Aide Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Administrative oversight of the program including oversight of the day-to-day operations of social services, occupational therapy, childcare staff, and residential aides.
  • Work collaboratively with the property management staff.
  • Attend Owners/Property Management meeting.
  • In collaboration with Leasing Department, oversee lease up of vacant units including, tenant applications, tenant interviews, and referral programs including but not limited to CAPS.
  • Build, train, supervise and develop a program team with a strong sense of accountability for achieving outcomes for tenants and complying with agency and funder regulations and requirements.
  • Foster and model tenant engagement.
  • Ensure all case records are accurate, comprehensive and up to date for all tenants in compliance with funder guidelines.
  • In conjunction with staff, oversee the development and implementation of program services, including groups, community/tenant meetings, activities and celebrations, etc to meet tenant and program needs.
  • Identify and fulfill training needs of program staff.
  • Assess serious incidents, review appropriateness of incident management and make corrections as needed.
  • Assure compliance to BFL standards and all contracted agencies.
  • Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner.
  • Develop linkages with community organizations to support the work of the program.
  • Adhere to and oversee program budgets and review them for accuracy.
  • Approval of all program expenditures per agency protocol.
  • Utilize data to ensure program goals are met and to address trends (both positive and challenging).
  • Work in conjunction with Quality Assurance to ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
  • MSW or related degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-Masters experience, preferably working with victims of domestic violence and/or people with disabilities.
  • Minimum 5 years Supervisory Experience.
  • Ability to supervise interns such as MSW or mental health counseling students (ex: SIFI certification).
  • Experience working with formerly homeless families/singles impacted by mental illness, substance use, and medical issues.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Open to working with diverse populations.
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred.
  • ASL fluency a plus.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
