Bard College is Hiring a Program Coordinator Near New York, NY

Bard College seeks a full-time Program Coordinator for the Bard Microcollege for Just Community Leadership in New York City. This is a full-time, exempt, 12 month per year position.

The successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. This position is fully benefits-eligible through Bard College. Staff benefits include health insurance with prescription, vision, dental and a retirement plan. Building on the values and 25-year success of the Bard Prison Initiative, the Bard Microcollege brings tuition-free, high-quality, liberal arts education to communities most often excluded from the university experience. The strength of the microcollege rests in alliances between institutions that are conventionally separate from one another but have overlapping missions, common purpose, and shared core values. These partnerships create opportunities for academic success and disrupt traditional expectations about the kinds of students who can and will succeed in college. The Bard Microcollege for Just Community Leadership enrolls students of all ages who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system, as well as those aspiring to careers in advocacy, community building or social justice. It is a partnership among JustLeadershipUSA, College & Community Fellowship, and the Bard Prison Initiative, organizations that put education and community-based advocacy at the core of criminal justice reform.

This position ensures smooth operation of microcollege programs and events, maintenance of academic data and records, and effective internal communication. Priority will be given to candidates who are formerly incarcerated or justice impacted and who are interested in helping to create and sustain academic community among justice impacted students, faculty, and staff, as well as contributing to the focus on liberal arts education as a foundation for advocacy.

This is an in-person position located in Harlem. While the Countee Cullen branch of the NYPL is undergoing renovation, the address is the Maysles Documentary Center at 343 Malcolm X Blvd, New York, NY 10027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help cultivate community, foster shared ambition, and inspire intellectual curiosity among Microcollege students
  • Provide administrative support for the program; Help maintain academic records, including database use and data entry
  • Manage tutoring schedule and supervise tutor work hours
  • Organize logistics for the weekly Microcollege lunch, annual recruitment and admission sessions, and special events
  • Maintain a weekly newsletter
  • Support digital communications
  • Provide support for special initiatives as the program grows

Qualifications

  • Commitment to BPI’s mission of defying expectation of who college is for and where it might lead
  • Strong organizational skill and attention to detail
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to self-manage, maintain focus, and balance multiple tasks
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects
  • Familiarity with academic institutions preferred
  • Comfort using word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Experience using databases preferred but not required
  • Associate degree or higher

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds and carry boxes of books and course materials
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

Compensation: $55,000-$60,000; full-time, exempt position
This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
