Development Manager

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), Development Manager will spearhead development and fundraising efforts as BandWith Chicago continues to grow. This new role in the organization will lead BandWith’s development initiatives to help us build for the future and achieve higher levels of service to the community. This is a full-time position, with 3 days a week in-person.

Development Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of BandWith Chicago’s fundraising activities including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaign. The Communications and Development Manager works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in fundraising for small to mid-size non-profit organizations, and the skill set to build on our current fundraising efforts to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding program. This is both an internal and an outward facing role. Love of artistry and music is imperative!

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute BandWith’s annual fundraising plan.

• Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.

• Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.

• Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.

• Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.

• Coordinate fundraising special events.

• Expand our major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.

• Develop the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.

• Work collaboratively with BandWith’s Executive Director and Board of Directors to align with the organization’s mission and strategic plan.

• Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about BandWith Chicago with the community.

• Maintain gift recognition programs.

• Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.

• Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities.

• Perform other related duties as requested.

Qualifications

• A sincere interest in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in serving communities of color and promoting access to music.

• Three or more years of fundraising experience with a non-profit organization, including grant-writing experience.

• Strong organizational skills with an ability to keep track of multiple data streams simultaneously.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with Salesforce Administration, Give Lively (or comparable donor management platforms), Canva, and Google Suite.

• BA (required).

• Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.

• Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.

• Have the desire to make personal connections by getting out of the office and building external relationships.

• Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.

• Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.

• Display outstanding people skills including a positive attitude, genuine concern for people and community, self-confidence, common-sense, and good listening ability.

Work Environment

The Development Manager will work in a variety of settings; however, the majority of work is completed in an office.

Schedule

The Development Manager typically works a Monday - Friday schedule. During office hours, the daily schedule is flexible with core office hours taking place between 9 am and 4 pm. Some nights and weekends will be required to accommodate Board meetings and special events.

Salary and Benefits

• Annual salary starts at $60,000-$65,000, with room for growth as revenue grows.

• 3 weeks of paid vacation and all national holidays.

About BandWith

Providing performing arts access since 2013, BandWith is dedicated to providing children in Chicago’s under-resourced communities with lasting access to high quality performing arts instruction. The organization believes every child should have an opportunity to experience the benefits of a performing arts education regardless of their zip code. Annie Palomino started BandWith in 2013 when the Titan Band program was dropped at LEARN Charter School due to budget cuts. Palomino created the organization to continue providing access to music and creativity to Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood.

In its first year, BandWith served 90 students including 35 students in the free program in East Garfield Park. This year we anticipate serving 215 students, ages 3-18, 150 of whom will participate in our free programs. In fulfillment of our commitment to be a lasting presence in the lives of the families we serve, this year BandWith is building a Community Performing Arts Center in East Garfield Park that will serve as a vibrant and welcoming home for the organization for years to come.
