Asia Society is Hiring a Major Gifts Officer Near New York, NY

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $131,000 - $180,000

SUMMARY:

The Major Gifts Officer will be a seasoned member of the Development team, responsible for managing a portfolio of high net worth donors as well as identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new prospective donors, with a capacity to support across Asia Society’s mission and with a particular focus on arts and culture programming.

This role requires an experienced and highly-motivated fundraising professional and a goal-oriented self-starter, who is comfortable engaging high-net-worth individual philanthropists and building out a robust major giving program. The incumbent will be able to work independently and as a team member to design and execute major gifts fundraising strategies. In addition to the Managing Director of Development, the Major Gift Officer will work closely with the organization’s Global Board members and Asia Society’s executive leadership, including the Museum’s Global Vice President and the Chief Development Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors with six- and five-figure capacity and multi-year commitments
  • Deftly build and manage a portfolio of 125-150 current and prospective donors, using the moves management cycle
  • Create tailored cultivation plans for each donor and assist in the development of long- and short-term plans to meet assigned revenue goals for general operating, special project and strategic funding priorities
  • Prepare customized major gift-level collateral and proposals, in partnership with the arts and culture team
  • Actively participate in donor events and receptions
  • Be an effective steward; communicate with, educate, inspire and celebrate donors to give consistently and more
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to all major donor inquiries
  • Be responsible for using Salesforce, Asia Society’s donor database, as well as prospective donor research and other wealth screening tools to aid in the moves management process
  • Prepare reports and briefings to demonstrate portfolio activity and progress; assist in projecting and tracking multi-year gift solicitations
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and night hours, as needed
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s preferred
  • 8-10 years of proven experience in major gift fundraising in a complex organization
  • A track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the five- and six-figure range, with well-honed skills in developing and successfully implementing long-term donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare reports and projections
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills
  • Initiative-taking, resourcefulness, and creative thinking skills to devise innovative donor programming, develop engaging events, and solve unforeseen problems
  • Clear, confident, and persuasive speaker; an active listener; a constructive meeting participant; and a calm and positive disposition under pressure
  • An active contributor to a growing team; at times, putting success of the team above own interests; building morale and group commitments to goals and objectives
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and commitment to deadlines
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Solid working knowledge of CRM donor database systems, in particular Salesforce
  • Knowledge of Marketing Cloud a plus but not required
  • Experience with and knowledge of the NYC arts and culture sector
  • Demonstrable affinity for Asia Society’s mission
