Position: Associate Director, Institutional Giving

Location: New York

Reports to: Executive Director, Institutional Relations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Type: Full -Time

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 (Compensation within this range is determined by skills, experience, and organizational equity. )

SUMMARY:

The Associate Director position is part of the Institutional Relations team within Asia Society’s Development Department. The Associate Director will be responsible for a highly diverse portfolio of foundation and government funders, managing partnerships across the entire grant lifecycle along with other responsibilities, to advance Asia Society’s work in arts and culture, education, and policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and government partnerships and provide ongoing support for partnerships in Executive Director’s portfolio. Develop relationships and serve as point of contact with donors.
  • Develop high-quality, complex written donor-related communications on diverse topics including but not limited to: letters of inquiry, proposals, concepts, reports, budgets, and meeting briefs, tailored to interests and requirements of donors, and in close collaboration with program and finance teams. (Includes writing original copy, comprehensively editing written copy including for content, and formatting).
  • Manage submission process (proposals, reports, etc) across program, finance, and other departments including timeline, guidelines, securing of approvals, and final submission.
  • Track status of active grants for Development Dept and with program and finance teams. Monitor timelines and budgets to ensure timely completion of grants within award period. Process/support processing and securing of modifications when needed.
  • Work closely with Executive Director of Institutional Relations to identify and research new foundation/government prospects.
  • Plan and carry out meetings and followup with institutional donors within portfolio; research, draft briefs, and prepare leadership and senior staff in advance of donor meetings and calls.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge about Asia Society history, programs, and fundraising priorities and serve as a resource on foundation and government donors. Develop strong collaborative relationships with key Asia Society internal leadership and program experts.
  • Responsible for specific team operations including grants processing, managing of deliverables timeline, and pipeline using Salesforce.
  • Available to work additional hours to attend occasional morning and evening programs and to meet deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Mandatory minimum 5-7 years of experience in institutional fundraising. Experience with government (NYS, NYC and federal proposals) highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing skills. Demonstrated track record of securing and renewing 6-7 figures grants by communicating complex and diverse programmatic issues into clear, well organized, compelling narratives aligning with both Asia Society and donor guidelines and priorities.
  • Prior experience fundraising for an organization with international programming is essential, as is knowledge of and experience with grantmakers supporting international work. Familiarity with political and cultural environment of Asia highly preferable.
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail. Excellent analytic and prospect research skills.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously, and work effectively with diverse internal and external constituents.
  • Professional, courteous and friendly. Experience and interest in working in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce.

COMPENSATION:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000

Compensation within this range is determined by skills, experience, and organizational equity.
