Job Summary:
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Medical Director, who will be responsible for overseeing operations and delivery of health care for a health system that operates within Adobe Mountain School (AMS), a juvenile corrections facility. This position serves as the Designated Responsible Physician and reports to the Responsible Health Authority. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluating all activities within the area responsibility. This position ensures health care services are in alignment with the regulatory and statutory responsibility. This position will participate in creating, updating, and implementing policies, procedures and protocols.
Job Duties:
  • Provides clinical leadership and expertise to ensure the highest standards of patient care, medical protocols and treatment methodologies are followed
  • Overseeing healthcare services within the AMS, including monitoring medication, vaccinations, vision, dental care and other health-related aspects for the youth in our care. This entails making informed decisions regarding hospital admissions, discharges, and healthcare contracts. In addition, services as the custodian of all juvenile medical records
  • Collaborates closely with secure care administration and staff to ensure seamless coordination of services for the healthcare needs of the youth in our care; and engages actively in providing direct patient services
  • Creates guidelines that adhere to industry standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Collaborates with various areas including nursing, clinical services, administration, and finance to ensure seamless coordination of patient care and efficient operational processes. Serves as the primary liaison in fostering relationships with local healthcare providers, organizations, and stakeholders
  • Assist with grant procurement, grant updates and monitoring, and selection and oversight of consultants; recommend and/or approve procurement of medical equipment, supplies and services
  • Identifies and manages potential risks related to patient care, medical procedures, and legal liabilities; and implements strategies to minimize adverse 
  • Establishes key performance metrics to track and measure performance, making data-driven decisions for improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Selective Preference(s):
MUST POSSESS: A Medical Degree from an accredited School of Medicine or approved School of Osteopathic Medicine; and a professional license valid in the State of Arizona. Experience working in a correctional setting is preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
