Job Summary:
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is searching for an energetic, outgoing, and self-motivated individual who would be responsible for planning, implementing, and administering education programs and supervising instructional staff while under the direction and leadership of the Superintendent of Education. The Program areas include curriculum, technology, program management and coordination, cognitive skill development, report development, instructional leadership, teacher evaluation, teacher improvement plans and tracking/monitoring student achievements. Job Duties:
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets and evaluates data and literature to facilitate the direction, administration, coordination, research, funding planning, development, organization, assessment of needs, writing, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of assigned educational programs, projects and grants.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, in-services and training to facilitate the direction, administration, coordination, research, funding planning, development, organization, assessment of needs, writing, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of assigned educational programs, projects and grants.
  • Manages Arizona State and ADE requirements regarding teacher performance, including MAP performance management, ADE performance management, employee discipline, and employee grievance process.
  • Supervises assigned teachers. Manages teacher time and attendance, including ETE, leave requests and schedule adjustments.
  • Ensure teacher compliance with all applicable ADJC policies and procedures and GAR system.
  • Conducts mandatory teacher observations and evaluations as required.
  • Guides and helps teachers by conducting classroom visitations and demonstrations to promote governing professional practices. Assists individuals or groups of teachers in improving strategies, obtaining materials and planning lessons.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for all school property under his/her jurisdiction; and for reporting and administrative record keeping as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • State, Federal laws, as well as Agency rules and regulations pertaining to Education requirements for K-12 students.
  • Education/Instructional theories, strategies, models and practices.
  • How to direct, administer, coordinate, research, fund, plan, develop, organize, assess needs, write, monitor, implement and evaluate educational programs, grans, and special projects.
  • Behavioral management techniques and principles of applied educational psychology.
  • Observational techniques for evaluating class settings, instructions and teacher performance.
  • State curriculum standards, curriculum design, assessment processes, and curriculum evaluation processes.
  • Developing instructional objectives, instructional leadership techniques as well as various classroom techniques.
  • Effective practices in correctional education programs.
  • Criteria for North Central Association (NCA) program accreditation.
  • Knowledge of project design and management strategies.
Skill in:
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Gathering, organizing and analyzing facts or data to successfully accomplish specific tasks or to satisfy specific programs, grant or special project demands.
  • Directing, administering, coordinating, research funding, planning, developing, organizing, assessing needs, writing, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating educational programs, practices, grants and special projects.
  • Motivating and obtaining the cooperation of others to secure the acceptance of recommendations.
  • Exceptional time management, project management and resources management skills.
  • Computer and basic software applications: Microsoft Suites and Google Suites.
Ability to:
Manage multiple tasks:
  • Responsibly manage fiscal and human resources.
  • Effective time management of one’s own time and the time of others; set goals, targets, track progress, meet deadlines.
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal communication.

Selective Preference(s):
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in administering education programs.
  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess current Arizona Principal Certification in K-12.
  • A self-starter.
  • Motivated.
  • Persuasive and can-do attitude.
  • Positive presence.
  • Comfortable and adept at taking direction/guidance.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
REQUIRED: Must possess current Arizona Principal Certification in K-12 through the Arizona Department of Education
REQUIRED: Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a comprehensive background investigation, behavioral assessment and drug screening.
REQUIRED: Current State of Arizona employees: In order to be considered for this position, it requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by not have been issued a letter of suspension or have been involuntarily demoted within one year preceding this job posting close date, and have an overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
