Apixio is Hiring a Remote Engineering Manager

Who We Are:

At the intersection of health plans and providers, Apixio and ClaimLogiq are creating a leading Connected Care platform to minimize reimbursement inaccuracies and high-quality patient care so they can thrive as the industry moves toward value-based reimbursement models.

The combination brings together healthcare expertise, AI/machine learning technology and data-driven analytics solutions to deliver innovative solutions and value to our customers and the healthcare ecosystem. We aim to accelerate the shift toward alternative payment models, while enhancing efficiency and supporting better patient outcomes.

The Opportunity at Apixio:

At Apixio, our engineering teams play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a full-stack team responsible for our flagship product. In this role, you will oversee a team of 4 engineers, working closely with UX design, product management, and customer support teams to drive the creation and enhancement of all aspects of our user-facing experience. This position is a unique blend of hands-on engineering and management, offering you the opportunity to make a significant impact on healthcare outcomes.

Who You Are:

You are a seasoned engineering manager with a strong technical background and a passion for building exceptional user experiences. Your expertise extends to both front-end and back-end development, and you thrive in a role that combines hands-on engineering with leadership and management responsibilities.

What You Will Own:

As an Engineering Manager at Apixio, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities, leading and mentoring a diverse team of engineers dedicated to the full-stack development of our flagship product. Your multifaceted role will involve:

  • Translating Product Requirements: Collaborating closely with design and product management teams to translate intricate product requirements into a seamless and user-friendly experience, spanning both front-end and back-end systems.
  • Service Oriented Architecture and APIs: Taking ownership of a set of services critical to our flagship product. This dynamic ecosystem is built using both Java and Scala, and your leadership will ensure their continued robustness, scalability, and alignment with our product objectives. We are moving away from Scala and all new development is in Java but we have to maintain and migrate the Scala service in the mean time. Define API contracts for the backend and follow best practices and api conventions.
  • Data Management: Overseeing several data stores that back our solution, encompassing both relational (e.g., MariaDB, PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g. Elasticsearch, Redis) databases. Your role will include working with the team and DevOps to optimize data storage and retrieval to support the efficient functioning of our product.
  • Front-end Application: Managing the front-end component, which is developed using React.js and TypeScript. Your focus here is on enhancing and refining the user interface to deliver a visually compelling and user-friendly experience. Ensuring the quality and reliability of our applications by overseeing the implementation and optimization of our testing framework, powered by Cypress. This includes component, integration, and feature testing strategies to maintain a high standard of software quality.

What You Bring to the Table:

To excel in this multifaceted role, you should embody the following qualities and qualifications:

  • Leadership and Mentorship: You have a proven track record of leadership and mentorship, nurturing a collaborative and productive engineering team. Your ability to guide and inspire your team members to achieve their best is evident.
  • Technical Proficiency: With a strong technical background, you bring expertise in both front-end and back-end development. You are proficient in languages such as Java, Scala, TypeScript, and React.js, and you can effectively bridge the gap between design and technical implementation.
  • Scrum Methodology: You have experience running a scrum team, sprinting, working with product and design on grooming, daily standups, and retrospective reviews. You know the power of scrum and lean in to the process.
  • User-Centric Approach: You are passionate about creating exceptional user experiences. Your commitment to translating complex product requirements into user-friendly solutions is a driving force in your work.
  • Service Oriented Architecture: You have a deep understanding of service oriented architecture, having previously managed and optimized microservices in a production environment. Experience with Java and Scala in this context is highly valuable.
  • Data Management Acumen: You are familiar with managing diverse data stores, including both relational and non-relational databases. Your knowledge of database systems like MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch is a significant asset.
  • Testing Excellence: Quality assurance is second nature to you. You have hands-on experience with testing frameworks, particularly Cypress, and are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of software quality.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional teams, including UX design, product management, and customer support, to deliver exceptional products. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is exemplary.
  • Passion for Healthcare Innovation: You share our passion for leveraging technology to revolutionize healthcare outcomes. Experience in the healthcare industry or familiarity with healthcare data standards is a valuable bonus.
  • Adaptability: In a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you demonstrate adaptability and resilience. You can navigate challenges with a problem-solving mindset, ensuring the success of our flagship product.

Your leadership and technical prowess will be instrumental in driving the development and maintenance of these critical components, contributing significantly to our mission of revolutionizing healthcare through cutting-edge technology.
