AMDA is Hiring a Student Engagement Specialist Near Los Angeles, CA

AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers various pathways for students to receive unparalleled performing arts education taught by world-class industry professionals, including Professional Conservatory Certificates as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Occupational Studies, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts).
The Student Engagement Specialist is responsible for promoting student engagement, learning, and success through small and large-scale programmatic efforts, student organization management, and department/campus initiatives such as Student Orientation & Move-In. As a member of the Student Affairs team, the Student Engagement Specialist is tasked with supporting the overall day-to-day functioning and performance of the Department of Student Affairs for the Los Angeles campus, providing leadership and direction with respect to policies, practices, systems, and operations in Student Engagement/Campus Engagement , Student Care/Conduct and other areas as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs, in conjunction with the other members of the Student Affairs Department.
The Student Engagement Specialist will live on-campus in an updated, fully furnished one-bedroom, one-bath apartment. This position will work in-person on campus and the regular schedule may include weekend days. Must be able to work evenings as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist with leading and representing the Department of Student Affairs in the day-to-day operations of the Department, ensuring the safety of students, consistency of practice, and maintenance of optimum service levels.
  • Lead Student Orientation including setting orientation schedule, meeting with campus partners to outline action items, document/files are updated and maintained, and procedural checklists are adhered to.
  • Organize and facilitate small and large scale activities that support the academic, social, and personal development of students.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise an undergraduate Orientation Leader (OL) staff, which includes: providing guidance in day-to-day tasks; recruiting, selecting, and training; monitoring work performance in accordance with departmental and individual goals.
  • Serve as direct advisor to the Student Activities Board.
  • Serve as staff support for student clubs and organizations by providing guidance and leadership in event planning, meetings, administrative processes, handling/reconciling budgets, and marketing/outreach.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Student Affairs Department to provide analysis and advice in relation to policies and procedures regarding student services for students.
  • Counsel, advise, and make referrals to students as appropriate including follow-up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Serve as liaison with campus offices/departments regarding student engagement and recruitment.
  • Serve on department and college committees and task forces, as needed.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of the field of Student Affairs.
  • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; Master Degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or closely related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Preferred 2 or more years of experience in a higher education institution, preferably in Student Orientation, Student Life/Activities, and/or Student Leadership.
  • Experience dealing with students in crisis and/or crisis situations is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation, and oral communication skills, delivered in a manner appropriate to the audience.
  • Ability to establish priorities, organize, schedule, and solve problems and tasks.
  • Ability to self-start projects and include appropriate staff/faculty, as needed.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, credibility, confidentiality, and responsibility in all interactions; possess high ethical standards and an honest, open, and consistent approach to working with peers, employees, and Senior Leadership.
  • Ability to engage in critical thought and analyze all types of quantitative and qualitative data into informational reports and presentations for strategic planning and problem-solving.
  • Proven ability to synthesize detailed, complex information into clear and compelling recommendations and briefings.
  • Demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical and collaborative behaviors that engender collaboration, trust, and respect consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
Position Information:
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • The pay range for this position is $28/hour - $32/hour.
  • This is a fully in person position working on our Los Angeles Hollywood Campus.
  • The regular schedule for this role will typically be Tuesday - Saturday; may be required to work an alternate schedule which would include weekend days periodically based on student calendar and department needs.
