Akira Technologies is seeking a highly skilled UI/UX Developer to join our team for a critical project supporting the United States Army. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of user interfaces to support Army operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to national defense while working with cutting-edge technologies in a dynamic and collaborative environment. 

This role is mostly remote with occasional onsite presence in the DC Metro Area.

Job Responsibilities:

• UI/UX Design and Development: Lead the design and development of intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for defense applications, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience. Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including software engineers, product managers, and end-users, to gather requirements, define user personas, and conceptualize design solutions.
• User Research and Usability Testing: Conduct user research activities, such as surveys, interviews, and usability testing, to gather insights into user needs, preferences, and pain points. Utilize data-driven methodologies and usability metrics to evaluate and iterate on UI/UX designs, driving continuous improvement and user-centric innovation.
• Prototyping and Wireframing: Create interactive prototypes, wireframes, and mockups using industry-standard tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, or Figma, to visualize design concepts and gather feedback from stakeholders. Iterate rapidly on design concepts, incorporating feedback and usability insights to refine and finalize UI/UX designs for implementation.
• Design System and Component Libraries: Establish and maintain design systems, pattern libraries, and reusable UI components to promote consistency, scalability, and efficiency in UI/UX development efforts. Ensure adherence to defense design standards, accessibility guidelines, and compliance requirements, while balancing usability, aesthetics, and technical feasibility.
• Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration and communication across multidisciplinary teams, including designers, developers, testers, and project managers, to ensure alignment and cohesion in UI/UX design efforts. Present design concepts, rationale, and recommendations to stakeholders and decision-makers, advocating for user-centered design principles and best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in UI/UX design and development, preferably in a defense or government contracting environment. 
• Proficiency in industry-standard design tools and software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar. 
• Strong understanding of design principles, interaction patterns, and usability heuristics, with a focus on designing for complex technical systems. 
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance (preferred). 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and customers.
