Salary Range: $64,500 – 68,000

The HR Specialist will report to the Human Resources Manager and carry out duties associated with both HR and Payroll. The HR Specialist will support the accurate recording, processing, and administering of payroll. Along with supporting HR with the daily operations and tasks including compliance, employee relations, interviewing, hiring, administering pre-employment tests and background checks, termination, training and development, benefits, compensation, and personnel records administration. Perform all functions related to HR & Payroll, including but not limited to:
  • Engage and assist with weekly and biweekly payroll for 3 entities using ADP Workforce Now- 550 Employees.
  • Assist with all payroll related matters using payroll software of ADP WFN with heavy data entering, collecting, auditing, and verifying timekeeping information.
  • Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes and investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll.
  • Assist with questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams on all general ledger-related tasks.
  • Engage with external payroll vendors and tax authorities related to researching and resolving payroll tax notices, tax filing, and funding of payroll taxes.
  • Assist with research projects and preparation of management reports as needed.
  • Responds to human resources related inquiries or requests.
  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and coordination.
  • Work with the Safety department on recruitment and on-boarding of employees.
  • Conduct background check of newly hired employees.
  • Properly document all the steps leading to termination of an employee.
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Manage workers compensation cases.
  • Manage the personnel filing. 
  • Track and process employee time off requests of vacation, sick time, FMLA, CFRA, PDL etc.
  • Distribute and monitor employee performance evaluations and ensure they are done in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate open enrollments, changes, and training for employee benefits programs.
  • Communicate in a manner designed to minimize conflict and foster a positive relationship between management and associates.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
 Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Relevant experience in Human Resources with a minimum of 3-5 years.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in payroll 
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent multi-state employment tax experience, including but not limited to federal/state/local tax regulations and the filing of associated tax returns.
  • Proven track record in the broad HR knowledge in federal and state employment laws, benefits, compensation, employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, policy implementation, recruiting, retention and conflict resolution, etc.
  • Able to work independently managing time to meet critical deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all assignments and in all information obtained.
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to work extended hours during critical periods such as quarter-end and year-end.
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations, multi-jurisdictions, and software.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience is required.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels in the organization.
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to translate plans into action.
  • Performs with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft business suite with strong excel skills.
  • Working with Service Contract Act and fringe benefits payroll experience is highly preferred.
  • Prevailing wage experience is highly preferred.
  • Transportation industry experience highly desired.
Pay: 
The pay is competitive, ($64,500 - $68,000) depending on experience, and will be discussed during an in-person interview.
