Student Support Specialist Lead

Position Summary 

The Student Support Specialists (SSS) lead the vision and implementation of restorative justice practices across all sites. The SSS Lead leads the vision and implementation of supports grounded in social and emotional needs and culturally responsive practices for a middle school environment. This role acts as a lead for restorative practices and supports creating professional development to create a safe, inclusive culture and environment for all staff and students. SSS Lead consults with site SSS on high level cases and needs at their site.. SSSs creates tools and resources needed for joyful summer learning and high-quality programming that can be implemented by all staff. 

This is a seasonal position: pre-work planning during May, support faculty training and summer programming. Some work will be completed online while some might require in person support at sites. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Train all SSS for sites on restorative practices at Aim High during Faculty Training Week, and during the summer, if needed; may partner with other Student Support Specialists to deliver regional training. 
  • Manage, create, and lead targeted interventions: restorative dialogue, conflict mediation, etc. 
  • Create and update student referral process for sites and provide consulting on higher need cases 
  • Create a bank of appropriate resources as needed with on-going mental health services, recreation and sports programs, and medical services

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, school health, counseling, MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) or other related fields, with at least two years of school-based experience is preferred, but not required. 
  • Experience and training in leading restorative practices in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of community resources. 
  • Innately hold a positive, can-do attitude with a propensity for action and efficiency
  • Have strong attention to detail and communication skills 
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a team; build and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and students 
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset along with a willingness to give and receive feedback.
  • Responsible and demonstrates a commitment to social and racial justice, anti-racism, and equity in education. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, along with social and racial justice as well as a high level of cultural competence 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic knowledge of classroom technology 
  • Cultural competency, strong leadership & communication skills and a commitment to social justice, anti-racism and equity in education. 
  • For some regions, bilingual in Cantonese and/or Spanish is a plus.
  • Possess a deep commitment to the mission and values of Aim High. 

Job Details 

  • Reports to: Central Office Program Director
  • Classification: Non-exempt from overtime; paid hourly
  • Pay ranges from $38 to $47 per hour depending on experience
  • Compensation for this position will be determined following the ranges listedbelow with additional compensation beyond the beginning of the range for employees who (1) hold a teaching credential and/or an advanced degree ofeither a Pupil Personnel Services credential or a Masters in Social Work, (2)have prior school counselor, social worker, or restorative practice workexperience, and/or (3) have previously served as an Aim High Site Director, Lead Teacher, or in a Specialist role:
  • This is a temporary, full time, non-exempt position for the six weeks of programming with some work in May to prepare for the training others and updating policies.
  •  Will work with sites at regions and will be available to support online and by phone
  • Program dates in Oakland: June 5 to July 14
  • Program dates in San Francisco, Richmond, Novato, San Rafael and East Palo Alto: June 12 through July 21
  • Program dates in Napa: June 20 through July 28
  • Program dates in Tahoe/Truckee: June 26 through August 4
  • This position will work hours aligned to regional support 
  • Unpaid holidays: Aim High’s summer program will be closed on June 19th, July 3rd, July 4th
