Principal Tasks: The Trade Compliance Specialist will coordinate the day-to-day activities associated with import/export compliance in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. • Function as the corporate liaison to US Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security and other government agencies as they relate to customs and global trade issues • Assign correct harmonized tariff codes (HTS) and export control classification numbers (ECCN) • Analyze Customs entries, file post-entry corrections, and respond to Customs’ inquiries (CF28/29s) • Interpret Customs Rulings, Explanatory Notes, and technical product drawings • Establish and maintain all necessary customs performance metric reports • Manage CBP’s Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system • Support Logistics on all clearance-related issues • Handle daily work queues Supplementary Tasks: • Assist in the maintenance of ADVA’s global compliance data repository • Apply for CCATS and export control licenses • Perform compliance training to personnel at all levels • Support audits of records, processes, and files for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with internal procedures and regulatory requirements and lead improvement activities • Continuously monitor government and industry developments and maintain current information on all import and export regulations • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein Customers (Internal & External): Internal • Cross-functional position; Shipping & Logistics, CFT, R&D, PLM, etc. External • CBP, BIS, Freight Forwarders, Customs Brokers Skills / Qualifications / Training / Experience: • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree helpful • 3 years of U.S. import/export experience • Excellent working knowledge of and experience with HTS and ACE • Good working knowledge of ECCN and EAR • Understanding of encryption products (and classifications) a plus • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Must pass background check and drug test • Occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds) may be required Success Criteria: • High level of integrity • Ability to work independently as well as in a team • Critical thinking and excellent problem solving and analysis skills • Positive attitude and proactive approach • Detail oriented, excellent follow-up skills and customer service orientation • Strong interpersonal and communication skills Adtran is a leading global provider of fiber-based networking solutions and SaaS applications, focused on the broadband access market.
