Accomack County Public Schools is Hiring a Food Service District Manager Near Accomac, VA

An individual in this position provides general assistance to the Supervisor of the Food and Nutrition Services Program by performing the following duties:


Job Summary

This position involves assistive professional and administrative work with planning, implementing, and coordinating school nutrition services. Work is performed under the Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services. Individual will assist with the supervision of all food services staff and the operations of the food service cafeterias.


Essential Duties

  • Provides general assistance to the Supervisor with training of staff, staff development, summer training, back to school nights and other events.
  • Provides training for newly hired cafeteria managers and workers.
  • Assists with the monitoring of food and nutrition federal, state and local forms.
  • Fills in for absent cafeteria managers and short-staffed cafeterias as needed.
  • Answers phones, send emails and provides coverage for the central food service location as requested.
  • Assists with central inventory and accepts/inspects USDA and vendor deliveries to central storage.
  • Pickup will call orders at Sysco and Holt and delivers to schools as required.
  • Moves food/supplies from school to school as needed.
  • Assists with supply ordering and preparation for school special events.
  • Submits maintenance and IT work orders.
  • Assists Supervisor with pre-k/k nutrition education sessions and lesson plans.
  • Submits state, federal and local reports as requested.
  • Completes weekly ordering of produce, beverages, supplies, milk, bread and ice cream as well as weekly large volume food orders.
  • Assists with all pre-operational and operational site visits, audits, and mock inspections.
  • Reviews and assists with the annual agreement between ACPS and the VDOE regarding child food nutrition.
  • Assists in staffing, problem resolution, motivation and training of staff.
  • Assists in monitoring cost control, food quality standards, inventory management and USDA commodity utilization.
  • Assist with evaluation and training of cafeteria managers ensuring department policies, federal, state and local regulations are maintained and followed.
  • Assists with addressing parent complaints. Maintains open line of communication between Food Service, parents and administrators.
  • Assists with the school staffing plans.
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures for the division.
  • Conducts regular paperwork audits (temperature charts, sign in sheets, production records, café income forms).
  • Assists with recipe designs to keep food pleasant and nutritional for students.
  • Assists with emergency activities such as shelter openings, disaster preparedness and unanticipated school closures.
  • Assists with the summer meal production and distribution.
  • Oversees the daily operations of all programs in the absence of Supervisor.
  • Other duties as required.


Job Specifications

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Prior management experience in school nutrition preferred. SERV safe Manager Certification and SERV safe Food Handler Certification is required. SNS credentials shortly after hire. Possession of a valid driver’s license. High School Diploma or a GED is required. Must obtain any certifications required of division or Commonwealth of Virginia.


Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Must be able to perform basic budgeting and accounting procedures. Knowledge of basic purchasing and inventory of materials is required.
