The supervisor of intake will join the fun and innovative Access & Intake leadership team and will provide direct supervision to the intake operations at our Center Line, Auburn Hills, and Southfield Crescent Center offices where intakes are completed for both adults and children. Timely access to care, hopeful and empathetic welcoming to services, and team-based approach are our priorities. The department is transitioning to a walk-in model (same day access) that requires the supervisor to have comfort with managing fast pace and evolving situations. Clinical savvy, calm under pressure, enthusiasm, flexibility, optimism, communication, and quick response time are key. The intake supervisor must also understand and utilize principals of change and growth management and will support their team with training, follow up, celebrating wins, and addressing areas of improvement. The supervisor should understand data-based decision making and be comfortable with learning data systems such as PowerBI. 

The leadership team for the Access & Intake department include the director, three intake supervisors, and our contact center supervisor. We back each other up for vacation and leave time. We are well connected, communicate often, and will provide guidance and support for career growth and development. We provide psychological safety for sharing ideas openly and often make decisions together. We are creative and innovative but also dedicated and hard working. 

The intake operations focus on engagment of clients and families in a welcoming, hopeful, empathetic manner regardless of stage of readiness and phase of treatment.

  • Supports and supervises the clinical work of direct report staff.
  • Assists staff as required to manage work efficiently.
  • Reviews cases to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services rendered. Conducts staff meetings to review strengths, outcomes, problem areas and plan solutions.
  • Assists staff in improving and updating professional skills by providing them with information such as pertinent conferences and seminars, new techniques in the field and current and pending legislation affecting mental health services.
  • Orients and trains new staff. Monitors case records, including the follow up and referral of clients to community agencies to aid in an accurate history. Ensures that paperwork is maintained in accordance with funder requirement (i.e. Medicaid & DCH, 1st & 3rd Party Standards, OSAS, & Easterseals guidelines, policies, and procedures).
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify stage of change and use interventions consistent with stage of treatment. Assist staff in developing strength-based, stage wise treatment matched person centered plans that are designed to address identified consumer needs. Able to provide resources for integrated treatment including self-help and peer support.
  • Model and use the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in all interactions with staff, consumers and stakeholders. Provides outcome and strength based supervision to staff utilizing a range of supervision techniques to foster professional development and performance, develop skill sets and increase client outcomes.
  • Conduct clinical case reviews that are competency based, strength based, culturally relevant and focus on improving client outcomes. (i.e. utilize motivational interviewing with staff-direct, follow, and guide approach). Assess for acute needs and risk and provide/arrange for appropriate stage wise intervention.
