Summary
  • This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing interpretive, patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. The Lead Radiology Technologist will have additional responsibilities precepting new employees and students in addition to being an expert resource for all front-line staff.
Job Duties
  • Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
  • Performs diagnostic/fluoroscopy (fixed and portable) x-ray exams according to protocol and with the least amount of radiation needed to obtain a quality image.
  • Explains and prepares the patient for all Radiographic General and Fluoroscopic procedures
  • Identifies each patient correctly verifying the exam to be performed is being done on the correct patient.
  • Reviews radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeats images of poor quality.
  • Serves as super user for EPIC, PACS, Laborworkx, and other computer software.
  • Clearly communicates and introduces new processes into the department/unit.
  • Keeps supervisor apprised of staffing issues.
  • Serves as an expert resource to staff for clinical or technical questions and orients new staff to equipment.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
  • Acts as liaison to MPS clinic sites.
  • Attends and participates in quarterly meetings with MPS Operations to provide updates on radiology information.
  • Maintains radiology information to include licensing, accreditation, regulatory, IDPH, new clinic start up, new equipment, and Landauer Badge management.
  • Assists with annual lead apron checks at MPS sites and quarterly CR cassette cleaning.
  • Assists with CR to DR conversion at all MPS sites.
  • Assists with EPIC/PACS downtime communication to clinics.
  • Tracks and monitors radiology equipment issues.
  • Manages QC tasks to include: mismatch laterality, image quality, code history and code technical, repeat/reject based on information received from Radiology Manager.
  • Attends and participates in quarterly Radiation Safety meeting. Communicates with RSO, IDPH, and physicist as needed.
  • Works with Radiology Managers to schedule yearly physical visit.
  • Handles questions and issues with MIDAS patient safety events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Competent using diagnostic (fixed and portable) x-ray equipment, computed radiography and digital radiography/fluoroscopy
Professional Experience
  • One year of experience as a radiographer
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Education
  • N/A
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certificate required
  • Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required
Physical Demand Requirements
  • Heavy: Exert 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently
