Structural (Bridge) Engineer - Virginia Beach, VA
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC is looking for Structural (Bridge) Engineer to join the Design Team to support various transportation projects throughout the Southeast. The Structural Engineer will be assigned to the Virginia Beach, VA office. A hybrid work schedule is permitted for this position.
Position Summary: The Structural (Bridge) Engineer will perform the following job duties including but not limited to: Analysis and design of structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation related structural systems. Deliver technical solutions to clients typically in the form of contract documents such as construction plans, design calculations, and project specifications A high level of attention to detail is required for this position. Job duties include structural design utilizing AASHTO and other applicable design specifications as well as state and local design requirements. Job duties also include project management, staff management, seismic design, bridge/culvert inspection, load rating, review and approval of construction submittals, quality control, communication with clients, and sub-contractors. The engineer will be responsible for mentoring junior staff and additional managerial duties as assigned by the group leader. The position description is intended as a summary only of key duties. Other related duties may be assigned as appropriate.

Position Responsibilities:
- Develop effective designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures that could include pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, pre-stressed concrete hollow-cored slab bridges, steel plate girder bridges, reinforced concrete flat slab bridges, retaining walls, noise walls, box culverts, etc.
- Coordinate with project team, contractors, vendors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements.
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications, AREMA Specifications, and state-specific design criteria/specifications.
- Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations and specifications to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability.
- Work with the Project Management to ensure projects are completed on schedule and under budget.
- Must be able to independently manage project tasks.
- Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
- Proactively communicate with clients, other disciplines and subconsultants.
- Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required - master's degree in Structural Engineering desired.
- VA EIT Required, PE license required.
- 3-5 years of experience with extensive knowledge of VDOT Bridge Design practices required.
- Expert software skills with MicroStation required.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise, Microsoft Products, LEAP Bridge, CSI Bridge, and/or other commonly used structural design software packages is required.
- Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.
- Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written.
- A valid Driver's License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

- 40-hour work week with office hours from 8:00am-5:00pm, allowing 1 unpaid hour for lunch each day. Occasional overtime may be necessary dependent on project deadlines, which is compensated according to company policy.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes employees to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Employees must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
